Weird Rear End Vibrate/Wheels not spinning evenly?

id guess something wrong with the LSD.

 

maybe you burned out the clutch packs. im not sure. bump the thread in the morning for all the smart people to comment

 

Shot in the dark here but years ago on another truck, I had a busted leaf spring perch that acted kind of like what you are describing.

 

Square box between the leaf spring pack & the axle housing.....weld busted on this & caused my leaf pack to shift when torque was applied to it.....ended up twising up my drive shaft too. Like i said, it might just be something for you to check.

 

Is it an automatic or manual? If the lsd was fried that would cause a one tire fire (one spins easy). Inspect the rear suspension, like others said it's wheel hop caused by axle wrap. The best way to fix that is to link it and put a locker in. The cheapest way to fix is to stop driving like a window licker.

ya they are pricey. Maybe you can find a wrecked trd offroad and buy the rear end?

 

You should be able to put a floor jack under the rear diff and get both back wheels off the ground, then just try to turn one of the wheels by hand. If the opposite wheel spins in the opposite direction with ease, LSD likely not working. You should not be able to turn the wheels by hand when both are in the air if the LSD is working properly (with drive shaft stopped, IE in Park on an auto or in gear in a manual (engine off)).

 

hmm weird, is the rear axel hopping up and down?

 

I really doubt its axle wrap. You said the problem occurred when you had your old leafs as well. I doubt its happening on your new ones. I think is either the tranny or more likely the rear diff. Its got to be where the engine power is transfered to the rest of the drivetrain. Hopefully its not the engine! But I really doubt it.

Check your driveshaft at the carrier, the arb locker is expensive, but you can just put a lockright locker in there for much cheaper

is the only answer new LSD or Locker....no other solutions?? im tired of droping cash on this truck

and i just swapped out all three u-joints and the carrier bearing

 

U joint is what connects the driveshaft to the diff.

Did you ever get this figured out? If not, I think it's time to take it into a reputable rear end shop.

I do all my own work on my truck except welding and driveline. To me the diff is a "magic box", so I'll let the pros work on that. Sounds line you have diff issues.
