Just polished up the Taco with a PC 7424xp (pics)

Thought I would share my results.

Here's what I used:

1) LCC Orange pad w/ M105
2) LCC White pad w/ M205
3) LCC Red Pad w/ Menzerna Power Lock Sealant

(I had planned to use Menzerna PO85 w/ a LCC Blue Pad as step 3, but after 10 hours on this project I said screw it. I thought it looked pretty good. Now that I've got a feel for it, next time I'll do a fourth step.)







This was my first time doing this. I burned through the clear on a high spot on the passenger bed side trying to get a deep scratch out. Will keeping sealant on this spot protect it or does anyone have any suggestions?

umm idk. you have any swirls in the paint man?all the scratches taken out and where did you get all your stuff from? got a link?

 

You need to get that spot repainted and re-cleared before too long or it will start to oxidize and discolor. Oxidation will get up under the edge of the clear and spread. Red is pretty easy to do small blends on rather than re-clearing the whole bed. If it were mine, I'd re-clear the bedside though, I don't want any blends on my vehicles.

 

A few minor hairline scratches/swirls remain but I am happy with the results. As for where I got my stuff... Autogeek.net and Amazon.

7424xp bundle with 6 LCC 5.5" pads. I got the compounds/glazes based on where I could find the best price. Amazon has a better price on Meg Mild clay and M205.

 

Can i ask, did you do this outside? I recently did this to my truck and since i am no pro at this, noticed that the compounds would dry up very fast. How long is it supposed to stay very wet for while polishing after each time you add more polish to the pad?

 

I actually did this in my garage. A portion of the bed was exposed part of the day to sunlight. However, I experienced this problem mainly with M105. It seemed to dry out and powder up I'd say within 20 seconds or so. Keep in mind that I also made sure that the pad stayed primed with Pinnacle pad conditioner. M205 took a lot longer to powder up and I had a much easier time removing the excess. Might I add that it is a major PITA to remove excess M105 from the paint!! My assumption is that it is just the nature of the M105 compound, noting that it is not optimized for D/A polishing. I like what it can do but it is not the easiest to work with and I may try 3M or Menzerna correction compound when the time comes to purchase product again.

What pad conditioner and "sealant" did you use as well?

 

Synth, I find that menz products are more finicky than the megs products. Menz should really be used in garages/controlled temps. It responds better that way imo. But if you can get small bottles, dont let it deter you, still great products.
On the other hand, 105 shouldnt be hard to remove from the paint. Dont prime pads when using the 105/205 combo. Priming w/ the product itself is sufficient. It does work very well w/ the PC.
Ryan, it looks like he used powerlock sealant.

 

Thanks for the input. So are you saying that the conditioner is what is causing the difficult removal? Also, I have read countless places that you should never dry buff (i.e. buff until the product powderizes). Given mine and Ryan's experience with M105, can you comment on this? Has this been your experience as well?

The conditioner is Pinnacle XMT Pad Conditioner and the sealant is Menzerna Power Lock as Chris mentioned.

I woild go talk with a body shop about the clear in that one spot. Much to nice of a truck to take a chance.
