Spark Plug Install Help

Anybody have some input as to how the hell I am suppose to replace my spark plugs?

I am trying to complete my 30k service but last thing I need to do is change my spark plugs. I think on the passenger side all I have to do is remove the air box... but how do I do the driver side? Also, what is the correct way of taking off the coil pack on each plug?

Do you really need new plugs after only 30K? I would not have thought so.

 

Yea dealership says that is there "tune up" when you get the 30k done there. I use the truck hard for work so I figure why not baby her a little.

this might help...

 

on the driver side.............you need to move a bracket or two outta the way. after that.....you remove the bolt(10mm) hloding the coil pack on, then you kinda twist,pull the coil pack out. then use a long extension and a 5/8ths spark plug socket to get the plugs out...get the new ones in. use a little anti seize on the threads. passenger side is cake. gap the plugs to .040.

 

Do I NEED to use anti sieze? I don't have any and rather just finish up the job tonight lol.

 

you dont have to have it.................but its well recommended to use it, so you dont mess the heads up or cross thread the spark plugs. its still early there man....run to autozone and grab a tube of it.

ugh!... so i run to the store and get the crap. I get home and notice I have not 1 socket that will fit!!! Is there anywhere online for me to buy the socket that I need? I rather have the damn thing shipped to me lol.

 

yeah.....you can get them from northerntool.com or autozone.com or whereever................but walmart has a 3 pack set for like $5.

 

Hmm I like wal marts deal. Do they have that online as well?

Oh so do you need a special tool or just a regular 5/8ths socket?

 

A Cat mechanic friend of mine has told me not to use anti-seize on spark plugs also. He said that the anti-seize interferes with the sparkplug's ability to dissipate heat away from itself. Of course that is a Caterpillar engine not a Toyota, but the reasoning is sound in my mind.

 

i like the teflon tape stuff. Less mess. make sure and check your plug's gap if you decide on somethin like the pre-gapped NGK styles ... i know thats fairly obvious, but just checkin =)

 

a friend of mine uses vaseline on his plugs and swears by it

 

you need a 5/8ths spark plug socket......they have a rubber boot in them to hold the spark plug so it doesnt fall back in.
