    Hi Guys

I have been having issues with a strange whining sound coming from the rear end.
The orig rear diff was swapped out at 30,000km they said it was just a bad diff from the factory... 2 months and 2,500km later... the noise came back. Brought it back to the dealer... they said its the rear diff, and replaced it again.
Could this be an alignment issue? I have also noticed a strange clunk right before the truck comes to a complete stop... and then again a smaller clunk when I just start to accelerate. almost like something is slipping.

    Any ideas?

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
^^^ Bent housing is possibility, also dealer not adding required amount of oil, or wheel bearings on the rear are gone.

The truck only has 33,000Km on it. I have 2 months left on my warranty.

Is there something that the dealer can do to fix the axle wrap issue... maybe the rear suspension TSB??

It shouldn't do anything but drive nice... I think Canadian member 'Isthatahemi' also had repeated problems that finally turned him off his truck...? Maybe search his posts to see if there is some problem with Canadian Tacomas?

I just went thru a bunch of his posts... he is on Diff#4, it looks like I'm catching up. He has had several other issues that I have too.
Changed out Radio, two wiper motors, 2 fan motors, & fan control resistor.

Will the clunk get even worse over time? Is there something after market that I can look into?

    completely stock
the clunk can likely be fixed with an AAL but it will lift the rear of your truck 1.5"

I am on my 3rd Tacoma (over 260,000 total miles), and never had a clunk... Toyota quality spoils us into expecting it to be perfect... so it is a bit maddening when it is less than perfect!

I hope you get it all worked out!

Thanks for the help guys... I think I might call up the dealer and find out about the rear leaf TSB before my warranty is up.
At least i feel a little better that a lot of others are having the same issue.

As for my rear diff... who knows whats going on there.
    Thanks again.

Sorry for your problems. I just want to point out that isthatahemi beat his truck when his diff blew the first time according to an eye witness. Can't speak to any of the other problems, but he does keep track of those things in one of his threads.

I hope you get your situation resolved quickly and permanently.

    Good luck

OP , you already have the " TSB " 4 leaf pack unless you bought your truck in the States .

The Canadian market trucks come stock with the 4 leaf pack , 3 leaves and 1 overload

You have a 5 year 100km powertrain warranty, you should have more then a couple of months left.

I know that rear leafs should have a natural camber\curve to them... but don't these look a little flat?

Could this also be contributing to the axle wrap that I am having?

    Opinions?
