Oil Dip Stick

Is anyone else having trouble getting a good reading on the oil dip stick? I've scored mine to try to get the oil to show on the stick without much success. Frustrating! I'm about to dump 6 oz of FOOD COLORING into the damn thing so I can read the oil level....ARRRGHHHH!!!! Seems like no matter how careful I am, the oil is smeared all over the damn dipshit.

 

Yes, I did. I rubbed it with a metal file across the grain...still doesn't show.

 

Yep, just had my first change and cant tell if it's full or what. Sat over night and still the same thing.

 

ya especially after an oil change with synthetic when its super clean i find it the hardest to see, the best is in the mornin to check it after its been sittin for like 12 hours and pull it up gently

 

Yep. I used Mobil 5w3 Full Synthetic.....wish they put some dye in the stuff!!!!

We deal with this all the time. Between 3 and 10 sticks is about average.
Swearing at it doesn't help either.

 

I've had trouble getting a good reading with mobile one synthetic too. Scoring the end with a file helped. I still seem to get a high reading with 5.5 quarts (shows a bit over the top dot.) Next oil change I'm just putting 5.25 quarts in. Anyone else getting a high reading with 5.5 quarts?

 

I now just put in ~5 qts and forget about it. Why can't toyota engineers do a dipshit that works? Is it that hard? Do I have to put epoxy hash marks on it? Dye in the oil? Why is this so &@T#*&@T@ hard!!!!!! Friends, it's easier to make a loan for $100MM than it is to get a reading on these dipshits.

What is Royal Purple? I checked the dipshit this morning after the truck sat overnight......slightly better reading, but not much.

 

Just put 5.5 quarts in and forget about it, because I can't tell where its at on the dipstick either with Mobil 1.

It's easier to read? This is such a stupid problem, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. I've also resorted to just putting in the specified amount and walking away. I check to make sure it's generally up the dipstick to about the right amount but that's as far as I can get.

 

When I do that.....it always reads way over the Maximum fill line on the dipshit! I let my oil drain for hours when it's hot so I get it all......I run the engine to circulate the oil into the filter.....then let it sit for hours before I check it again. I've done hundreds of oil changes.....this dipshit is just that......shitty.

 

run your thumb nail down the dipstick and watch for it to start really building up and you know you hit the top.

Toyota will probably get rid of it like the trans dip stick

 

I hate to be defeated....so I just sprayed the end of the dipshit with flat black paint and it helped......
