with the stock air filter i get minus 59 HP but then that TW decal adds a 1,000 HP so it makes up for it.

 

i have been looking at the AEM brute force, my buddy has that in his F150 and its sounds sick and it gave him like 20 HP. I just wasnt sure if there was one that was the best for a tacoma as dumb as that sounds haha

did he have a scanguage? because those CAIs arent always so accurate with the HP boost

CAIs increase the efficiency of your engine(MPG) and THEY say it boosts your HP.

 

The whole theory is simply that you can get more horsepower out of the engine if you give it more oxygen to burn. The "cold air" part of it is really a misnomer. More like "cooler air," though for marketing purposes, that is a really horrible name.

So a CAI system allows the engine to breathe air that comes from outside the engine bay in the best systems, and from a segregated area with other systems. Cooler air is more dense, thus containing more oxygen. Think of a supercharger, but cheaper and much less effective.

 

Well chris4x4 told me that there was only one kind of intake that gave you any HP but I forgot which brand it was.

 

I am the buddy with the F150. As far as my gains, I also have an engine programmer with custom performance tunes (Gryphon from power hungry performance). The CAI alone didnt give me much of anything. 20 HP with the tuner is just a rough estimate, nothing I have put on the dyno yet.

Anyway, back to Rhino, does anyone one on here have experience with the AEM CAI on the Tacoma? Also, from what I am reading, there are no performance programmers for him. is this correct?

He has been asking me lots of questions lately and I referred him here to get better answers for his particular truck.

 

Well I just ordered the TRD CAI the other day. Heard many good reviews on it! Even chris4x4 likes it! That's more then good enough for me!!!

Got it off of Ebay of course!!! Got it for $345 w/shipping. My Flowmaster exhaust should be here today sometime by UPS so I might try and install that either tonight or tomorrow night after my shift. I'm actually going to go in my garage right now and start un-installing my stock one! Friggin AA it's cold out there though!! Here's a link:

This may sound retarded, but I would like to hear what the taco sounds like without a muffler and then compared to your new one. Or maybe not. Something may go wrong if you start your truck without a muffler (who knows maybe through a cel).

Has anyone tried this??

Haha! Well I just got my stock exhaust off but I don't plan on starting it any time soon! My bad!!!

 

Im going to go with the URD CAI, i think its the best choice and its more affortable at $289. All the other CAI i was looking at whent from $320 to $370. thank you for the help
