    6 inch ProComp Lift, 35s, ProComp Wheels, 4.88 gears, Debadged, BHLM, Dome Light Mod, Trailer Plug Relocated
    The reason I went with 4.88s is because I have 35s... I lost a lot of powa when I put them on because of reasons stated in previous posts. I got a lot of power back, I can't report on gas mileage as of yet because i am still on my first tank with the 4.88s. Everything that has been said is correct about gearing it's an expensive thing to do that you don't wanna do again but if you can change gears yourself then it will ease the cost of the whole install. I setup the gears in the 12 bolt in my el camino and it worked out great. The reason I chose to have ECGS do mine is for the amount of time I had to get it done. If I didn't need it done fast I would have done it myself.

    i also have a couple questions as well.

    i have a v6 with a fabtech 6 inch and 33 tires. i was wondering if 4.56 gears would give me back mpg and still allow me the power i need when towing my trailers? i would really like to get back into stock range of power. anythoughs on best gear ratios?

    i would say go to 4.56 and 35's you rpm will go down more than 33's.

    DO NO GET 4.88 if u have a 4cyl !!! Unless u have 35 inch tires. I have 33 4 cyl and 4.88 and It like at 3500 in 5th gear ... 4.10 is perfect 4.56 max

    this is one of my next moves with my truck running 8 inches on 35's im going to get 4.56's from east coast already talked to them and will be getting front and rear 3rd members and then send mine back to them.

    33s are overgeared by 4.56. If you want stock-like power on 33 inch tires, go to 4.10s on the automatic. 4.56 is a bit of overgear and ideal for crawling.

    Gearing down will lose you some mileage highway, gain you some mileage around town.

    Auto or manual?

    And I assume you mean the final drive ratio, rather than the ratios in the transmission, because there are 5 of them in the auto-tranny and six in the manual.

    One last thing you fellas adding all this gear and tire need to remember:

    You have to stop all this shit at some point.

    Larger tires mean more rotating mass, which means your braking distance increases. If you add gears for extra go, you'd better appropriately alter your following distances so you don't end up rear ending people left and right.

    2gen tacos don't offer a lot of room for brake upgrades...so adding stopping power is not easy.

    Add to this the fact that many of us are re-gearing to compensate for extra armor weight as well...yeah...loaded vehicles take longer to get to 0 mph as well.

    So remember to back up some more, otherwise you'll regret it.

    I have serious doubts that the so-called "better" brake components make any appreciable difference.

    The Tacoma has a very impressive braking system from factory that is way overbuilt for the stock truck. Most of the aftermarket upgrades offer things like improved heat dissipation, but do next to nothing to increase friction, which is where all that go-energy is dissipated as heat to bring about the stop.

    Honestly, what's really needed is a way to put larger calipers and pads on...which may be possible, but would probably result in some wheel changing as well.

    Really, the only good solution out there right now is to drive more conservatively.
