"When I go home people'll ask me, "Hey Hoot, why do you do it man? What, you some kinda war junkie?" You know what I'll say? I won't say a goddamn word. Why? They won't understand. They won't understand why we do it. They won't understand that it's about the men next to you, and that's it. That's all it is."

    -Hoot "Black Hawk Down"

^^^ i use that quote about once a week, except i use it in non war situations. that is to say, i change it to fit the situation im in with different words. ex" . . . . what are you, some kind crap in public bathrooms junkie? . . . " people either think youre a fucking moron cause theyve never seen the movie, or they think youre just a fucking moron. :D

Fun fact, Hoot was a fictitious character written into the film as an amalgam of several real individuals involved in the Somalia situation. He was primarily put in there, according to the filmmakers, to add a way to have a character "narrate" about soldier experiences in the field.

Personally, I prefer this tidbit of his:

"Y'know what I think? Don't really matter what I think. Once that first bullet goes past your head, politics and all that shit just goes right out the window."

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!

Here's a few more: Norman "Hoot" Hooten while mostly a fictious character in the movie, there was a real Hoot at the Battle of Mogidishu the scene where Cpt Steele points out that his saftey is off was real and actually happened.
The scenes at JOC some of the images seen in the back ground on the tv screenes are real recording from the Orion spy planes that were flying over head that day.
4 choppers went down that day only 2 crashed into hostile territory, super 61 Walcott's chopper and super 64 Durants chopper.
In the movie the Samolins knock out Mike Durant with the but of a gun whereas it was really the severed arm of one of the Delta snipers, Gary Gordon or Randy Shugart so much could be said about them, but Honor Courage Comment and Duty to Country were more than just words to these men.
I love this movie and you ever get the chance read the book, and Mike Durant's "In The Company Of Heros". Two truley amazing books.
One thing I was dissapointed about is that they did not show the Pakistani's tanks and apc roll in the rescue the men that spent the night in hostile territory or the fact that they were too afraid to run over the roadblocks because in previous wars they had been rigged with explosives and one Pakistani refused to go any further the American soldier that was riding shot gun got out and put the gun to his head and told him to drive or he would be replaced.

Call me old fashioned, but what happened to old Bogie? I mean how can you beat “Here's looking at you, kid.” or “The whole world is about three drinks behind.”?
