Alright guys so here's my situation. My current truck is an '09 DCLB sport, my mods are listed in my sig (I think). Thing is after I bought it and started moding it a realized I wanted the DC OR model, obviously for the locker and atrac. I was really looking forward to the 2012's "redesign" thinking I could do my swap then and get the new body and engine. But as it turns out next years truck wount have a new engine and the grill is not attractive. Word is the engine update is 2014 and will include direct injection, which would mean I'd want to wait a year or two before buying a brand new generation anyway.

So my idea that I have now is to trade in my 09 for a new '11 and build it into the truck I've wanted to for a while. My 09 only has 1 month of payments left, For the purchase I'd be working with USAA.

    What are your opinions?

    My truck

Seems like if you are 1 month away from paying it off- Paying for gears and a front and rear locker would be cheaper/better debt option. ATRAC is nice- but folks wheeled for years (many many years) without it.
If the redesign doesn't come for another 2 years-That's 2 years worth of car payments saved towards a bigger down payment.

Yeah I get what youre saying, but I also wanted to put front and rear bumpers, and all pro long travel kit on it. I just dont know how I feel about the long bed I guess.

The LB thing does make it tough. The rest of the stuff is easy-Don't need to buy a new truck for that. But the bed thing-That's a tough call.

Are you gunna be happy with the truck you build now when the new body/engine come out in a couple years??

I guess like OZ said-It's worth seeing what you can get on the trade and going from there...

I would be happy for a while, you know let the new one be out for a few years and see what the bugs are. If I were to keep this truck I think I would be too tempted to buy it right away since I'll be so eager to finally get the model I want.

I've run the numbers and I can pay off the new one in a year while making lower payments than I was in my 09 if I wanted.

If that's the case , I would say get the new one you want . You're not going to buy a 3rd Gen till at least 2016

I head back from usaa. They only want to give me 19,300 for my truck(in stock form). I told them no way and that Kbb and all the other trade in value assessment things have me at 24k. I was expecting somewhere around 23k.

Check my build thread...too much to list.
I'm with everyone about keeping the truck. Now that your funds will be free from a car payment to modify your truck. If you are that worried about the long bed and what not you can get a high clearance bumper. 1 ft of bed space won't be a do or die thing.

If I had a short bed sport right now I'd be better off , I'd be paid off and would be putting in stronger arb lockers along with all my other wish list stuff.

I went by a local dealer today to talk to someone about getting the truck I wanted. First he came at me with only giving me 19 something for my truck. I told him I knew the went for around 24k and he went up to 22,600, which was pretty close to what I expected. But then he wouldnt budge on the price of the new tacoma. They want 32k for the damn thing:eek::eek: Its just the trd OR extra value package, no cd changer or jbl or anything. I feel like I should get it for 29-30, what do you guys think?
