off road antenna?

I'm relatively new to this forum, but I'm finding it highly useful. Here's my latest issue that should be fairly simple: I break my am/fm antenna regularly (at least every other month)... it just keeps snapping off riding woods trails. There has to be a decent antenna made to withstand off road driving and constant tree branch impacts. Any suggestions?

$20 I'm sure this is about what you'd pay to buy a new one from walmart or more at a dealer. I'm looking to get one soon so I can speak first hand about it but most of the reviews are good.

 

I have a $8 rubber 11" antenna from Auto Zone. Picks up stations and it just bends when shit hits it.

 

I'm surprised you are breaking it...I have offroaded with mine many times on some pretty tight trails and never broken it...it bounces around like crazy but never breaks.

 

It was driving me insane going through regular ones left and right. Currently, I'm using an 11" shorty gets decent reception but far from original quality. It hasn't broken... yet. You'd think someone would make a tough as nails normal height antenna...

I recently lost the passenger rubber rain strip on top of the cab, and so have been thinking about maybe embedding antenna wire in there when I repair it...

 

How is the reception with this antenna? I just bought my 05 DC Tacoma and the reception is horrible. I'm also hating the height of the stock antenna, and would love something like this

 

I think I've finally fixed this problem. My 11" shorty finally broke off, but it never got a decent signal anyway. Currently, I'm using a 14" rubber mast from Advanced Auto. It looks silly, as it bends way back at highway speed. It seems pretty much indestructible through, as it just bends like jelly. Decent reception too.

 

do you listen to the radio when your out there driving?

if not i'd just take it off before i hit the trail

 

XM Satellite radio! If I break that antenna off, my roof is damaged! I have hit my radio antenna daily (onn garage door) and it has not broken off, but if it did like yours I would unsrew it and stow it while off roading... and listen to a CD.

With a stubby you end up breaking the antenna mount. They don;t flex for crap and snap the mounts. Ive seen it happen.

The best I know of is the OE antenna and pick a better line

 

I think he needs to run trails that are trimmed back a little. Tearin rubber weatherstrip off the windshield and breakin the antenna? Wow that's worse than walker branch trail

 

I have dents in my roof from branches but never did damage like this guy. Maybe he likes the booze a little too much
