Traction Bars

The axle wrap on these tacos gets pretty severe after a few months of working the springs out on some trails.

Anyone running traction bar setups out there? Opinions are welcome. Single bar, ladder bar, 4-link...tell me what you got and what it's done for you. Yes, I am aware stiffer springs may also help. That's not what I'm asking.

If you have to decide if you really want a traction bar or if you just want a sway bar

Budbuilt makes a traction bar...


Hellwig makes a rear sway bar...

 

mjp2 is has the bud built traction bar. he also has a custom drive shaft skid rigged to it.

 

...I really don't see how sway bars are relevant here at all.

The budbuilt option is one I've considered, but it's bulky. Will probably go the custom-fab route instead...

I've been meaning to add one to mine. I have a pretty good idea that severe axle wrap contributed to my breakage at Harlan last time.

 

Mines getting bad...that reminds me, check your PM. Probably going to go ahead and drop some dough on one of these at some point, though I have some other solutions I'd like to add as well.

I've seen the pro comp trac bars on a taco before and I'm sure they function well but they are extremely bulky and will kill your ground clearance... Maybe you shouldnt wheel so hard lol

The budbuilt option doesn't lose you any ground clearance...a custom-by-ATO unit is the front runner, BB nipping at its heels...

Axle wrap is when you hit the gas and the rotation of the axle tries to twist the whole axle, not just the internal shaft. The leaf springs try to counteract that force but they can still twise (especially if you have a flexy leaf pack and when it springs back, you have wheel hop. Do this under heavy acceleration and you can snap an axle if you're not careful. This is why rear lift blocks suck. They give the axle more torque on the leaf pack and exaggerate the problem.

Since the bud-built is mounted in the middle next to the driveshaft wouldn't there still be axle wrap because the ends is where it's occuring

 

Oh okay, I was thinking it might make it more of a pivot point, but makes sense now!
