undercarriage wash...

does rinsing off the salt from the undercarriage in the winter entail spending at least 7$ at the gas station? how do y'all do it?

...I usually just drop an extra dollar in at the DIY carwash and rinse underneath...

 

Unless you have a garage large enough to do it yourself, yep. Wait for a warm day and go through the carwash.

 

Or to a warmer climate where it doesn't snow altogether

 

I'm glad I don't have to mess with this. Everyplace I've lived uses sand instead of salt.
Makes it a pain in the butt when it finally turns to cycle weather and there is sand everywhere for a few weeks though.

 

LOL you quoted me but my post was only there for a few seconds... I realized it wouldn't make sense to rinse outside in your driveway in freezing weather.

when we get snow lol. and it is gone in a day or 2. i go down to moms work. (i can pull the car/trucks in side a heated building) and i wash the hole truck/car off and get the underside too. and sometimes do it in my uncles shop that has a water hose inside when we are in NY in the winter.

 

I use a waterpik to get into all the nooks and crannies. j/k

Unless you want to get up under there and spray it with a power washer, the car wash with the under carriage sprays is the best. And an under carriage wash costs $7 or is that for a wash with the U/C added on?

 

or just put a damn yard sprinkler under it. lol (i have not done that. but saw another member do it to get mud off)

 

I think the best thing you can do is park the truck and hibernate during the winter.

 

i dont get why they even use salt on the roads, just dumb imo. sand works well enough

 

This ^^^ or quit being in denial that you actually like the winter and move somewhere warmer.

 

Salt rusts your car and sand chips your paint and windshield. It's a lose lose situation.

 

If u have a truck u don't need sand or salt.

Prob with sprinkler is that it's not that practical to use the hose when it freezing weather outside.

I don't think $7 will even get u the undercarriage wash at BP. I think u need to spend $8. And that price is if u buy 8gal of gas.

 

I've realized that you just have to drive the truck and enjoy it because eventually you'll sell it or it will end up in the scrap yard sometime, so its just as well to enjoy it now and not stress the small stuff...if you live where there is snow, rust is inevitable!

 

How is it dumb? It melts the ice so you don't have black ice on the road. Don't hate just cause it's too damn cold for salt to be effective where you live.

On an unplowed road, you're correct. If you're on a plowed road, trucks slide on ice just as well as cars... That mentality is exactly why you always see more 4x4's in the ditch every winter.
