I went to wal mart at lunch and bought some .380 ammo.
I noticed that every caliber had went up in price.

the normal 100 round pack of .40 use to be $28, now is $32
the 50 rd pack of .40 went from 14 to 16
remington golden bullet 550 pack use to be $14 now almost $18

has anyone else noticed prices going up in their area?

I went to buy a 250 round Remington mega pack of 45 ACP and almost fell over when I saw the $98.00 price tag.
    Damn near a $20 increase

I think prices are going up because of demand. Retailers like Academy, Gander Mountain and Walmart can charge a few $ more and get away with it. I know the ammo shelves are picked over in the stores that I go to.

I buy all of my ammo from www.aimsurplus.com, or www.sgammo.com. If I get in a bind I will go to cheaper than dirt down the road and buy ammo. However I do not like to give cheaper than dirt any of my money because of the price gouging they did in the ban years.

I would order from ammotogo or CTD but that fact that I have to pay shipping AND taxes kills the deal

CTD has some decent prices, their shipping prices to me have been ok, but I hate paying the sales tax. I guess thats part of the deal. I ordered some 223 ammo and gun case on a Wednesday at noon and received Thursday afternoon. I was impressed.

    Check out my sig...
+1 BUT I have no taxes from them.

Last ammo I ordered was from Cabelas w/ free shipping and no tax.
    - 20 boxes of 21-4240 American Eagle Rifle Ammo .223 REM 55GR.FMJ/20 @ $5.49 each

I checked out online vs local walmart - I need to buy a minimum of 800-1000 rds or have free shipping to offset the tax difference I'm charged at walmart.

As far as prices - the went up about a month ago. Guy at walmart told me about it, said the .223 was the last to go up at his particular store. This is the main reasons Im gonna be selling my 1911 and moving to 9mm.

At least one major distributor of ammo (weaponsworld.com) posted a memo a while back from manufacturers that raw material costs were going up (copper, lead, brass). This was posted in some gun forums and people had to act fast to purchase before the price jump.

As a reloader, the true sign of the price of ammo going up is when the individual components go up in cost. I have not seen any components go up too drastically lately. I would just say it is fall hunting season driving the cost a bit. Come January they will more than likely fall again.
