Squeak

I have a squeak or chirping coming from the engine lately, '04 DC 47k V6.
It's so freaking cold out I want to know ahead of time what to look for...belt? Pulleys? Water Pump? It's intermittent, did it today (about 2 degrees F) after a short drive home from work, but also did it one day when it was raining, and one day in the Fall, when I first started the truck up?? Any similar experience out there? Thought I read about problems with Tacoma pulleys? Which ones? Hard to believe with such low miles?? Thanks.

 

im gonna guess its probably your tensioner pulley. you can spray a little wd-40 or belt dressing inside the pulley and see if it quietens down. my truck has right over 50k now, and its starting to squeak a bit when its cold or when it rains a bit.

Alright, I have a different problem. My power steering pump squeaks when the truck idles. I know it's the power steering pump because I've squirted WD-40 on the bearing and the squeak stops...for about a day. When I forded a river the other day, the squeak was unbearable until I got a chance to shoot some more WD-40 on it.

So does anyone know if replacement is my only option? Or could I maybe take the bearing apart and grease it or something along those lines?

im pretty sure you will have to replace the bearings, as i dont think they can be greased, but it'll be relatively easy to do i think.

 

Any chance you know how to take it apart?

Same here, just have to find the time...hard to think about doing when it is -5 out...

 

Sounds likee you'll be spraying the WD for a while. Can't imagine it will be warming up any time soon up there. Squeaks make me crazy though, depending how bad, might be worth freezing

 

Luckily, I live in the Sonoran Desert. My only issue is money and time.

 

Maybe worth trying some sillicon spray. Probably last a little longer than WD-40. At least until you can get around to finding out what needs to be done long term.
