the easiest way to turn the abs and traction control off but not permanently is just unplug the wheel sensor. there is a plug on the top of the frame rail on the passenger side easily accessible from under the hood or the wheel well

If you can not drive with out all that Traction control bull$hit maybe you should stick to bicycle.

Keep those training wheels On because you may fall.

Who wants to pay for that $hit ? Not me, so why I am forced to pay for ABS, airbags, traction control or TPMS (most retarded idea ever)
Drove for years with out them seems like expensive junk to me.

Don't knock it. It's children (Traction Control, Hill Descent, etc.) are pretty damn awesome.

Also, VSC is really really nice on snowy/icey roads. It doesn't drive for you ffs, it just helps you drive better.

And we can turn it off...under 30mph.

I'm not sure if the 30mph limit is designated only by wheelspeed or if the ECU is also pulling data from the accelerometers that control the airbags.

If the conditions trip, VSC is coming back on. That's a given.

Minimal concern to me, because I despise cleaning mud and generally don't wheel it. Also, you have to get into a pretty good slide before VSC kicks in.

On low traction surfaces, I prefer to have VSC off and hit things with some wheelspin in 4hi + TRAC, say 10 to 15 MPH. This has given me my best results so far.

Sad to say....but I've seen enough wrecks in my short career that makes me believe the general public needs this crap.

Big difference between "I want to turn it off" and "what a joke that stuff is." In general, I'm glad I have it when I'm on-road in bad conditions. A better off-switch for offroad would be nice, but it doesn't bother me.

Definitely makes me laugh a bit that the OP tried this (presumably multiple times), got pissed off enough to rant out a question at TW, and never, you know, checked the manual in his glove box...

I love it on snow. Works even better than 4Hi to straighten you out. Maybe you're thinking of ABS?

Dear lord, please don't bring up ABS in snow as a topic. I'd rather not hear from armchair mech e's all over again, if we can avoid it.

I just find it funny that people are using brakes in slippery conditions.

Anyway, I dig all the electronic doodads - they're good at what they do and I use them often.

x2... or at least, I find it funny that people overdrive conditions and then get irritated and/or blame their equipment when something bad happens. ;)

When I had a 2wd tacoma, I was actually impressed with how well the VSC did in ~12 inches of snow, compared to when I turned it off. (Large empty parking lot).

Let me rephrase that , ABS is great in the snow if you want to double your stopping distance

If you didn't notice, I have little interest in re-starting this, there is a whole thread on it that got very annoying and out of hand.

ABS does increase stopping distance in snow and gravel, but it keeps you in a straight line. I prefer stopping in a straight line. Therefore, I drive in snow happy with my ABS, bearing in mind that I must very slowly come to a stop. I've driven a few older non-ABS cars and trucks, and I prefer this for sure.

Whether you like ABS is up to you. If you don't, pull the damn fuse. Just stop bitching about it.

Ahem, so back to those traction aids.
