my truck has some scratches here and there but it also has swirl marks everywhere from the previous owner trying to detail it i guess.

and when i took off the trd stickers i used goof off instead of goo gone and it left some hazy looking stuff

anyways i went to a detail shop and he said he can get it all out blah blah blah and he wanted 250$, now i have never gotten a car or truck detailed but that seems kinda high, so the question is do i fork over the money to get it "professionally" done or should i attempt it myself

Do it yourself, just take your time. There should be some good threads on here to show you the proper ways to do it. Save yourself some money too.

Well my main concern is the swirls. Are those that difficult to get off?

250 isn't bad in all honesty. I charged 4-500+ for exterior correction jobs when I was doing it.
Answering your question is tough though. Is it easy to remove swirls...yes. Is it easy to remove swirls and be able to refine the finish to perfection, maybe..but its very time consuming.
Its easier to cover up the swirls w/ a filler heavy product, so I would just make sure you question the detailer on what products and steps he plans to use.
Being in CA, I'm sure you can find a lot of qualified detailers. Check detailing forums for guys who do it on the side. If you do go through w/ a professional job, make sure you have the products to properly maintain that finish!

Guess I should touch on your initial question too. You'll spend more than 250 getting your supplies, tools, etc, BUT you'll have plenty of product left over to keep up on maintenance. Only you know how much patience and ability you have. If you are able to work with power tools and dont mind spending 8-10+ hours working on the truck, then go for it :)

If you have large imperfections in the finish, I would pay to have it done if the $250 is doable for you. I know I would never have the patience let alone the expertise to take that project on. If someone guarantees their work, I would drop the $250 just for the piece of mind in getting it done right the first time.
