Anyone have an 2000-2006 tundra?

So I sold my taco and am looking into a tundra, Does anyone have any experience with one? It will be my dd so I'm concerned on the gas mileage factor. Also what is the power like compared to the 3.4 or 4.0 L?

Any input on anything about the truck really would be appreciated!

My dad had an 06 crew cab with the 4.7. Gas mileage was like 15-17 I think. Both trucks can get up an go if they are told too!

 

I had an '03 Tundra with the 4.7. Every day I regret getting rid of it.

 

My dads got an 03. I like the size and the motor is fantastic. Gas mileage isnt much worse than my 4.0. It handles like a tanker compared to my Tacoma though.

 

I had an 06 dbl cab 4x4 pre taco loved it great truck but my job had me parking in a garage, a tight one & that thing was a bitch to park in tight spots plus like everyone has already said 17+hwy is possible but so is 12 in town if your not careful. So if you don't drive in town allot or park in tight spaces its a great choice.

The one Im looking at is a one owner 2001 ext cab 4x4 with the 4.7

-170k 4.7L iforce
-Full load leather with wood, Tinted windows access cab
-All 4 shocks Bilstien 5100 2.5 strut lift (front adjustable)
-Bob long diff drop
-Upgraded front calipers, drilled rotors, pads
-New everything rear brakes
-Afe cold air intake (Have stock intake), & Exhaust, sounds awesome
-32' timberline mts on 17' black rims (fits 33s no rub)
-Stock alloys with 90% like new michelliens

Very well maintained, and runs perfect Trucks my dd; no expence spared all toyota part replacements, engine has always had toyota red coolant ran through it.. ALL oils and fluids changed recently, could use a front window

Yea thats what I had in mind. I had a budget for a tacoma so I'll have some money to play with aswell. Weird how much cheaper these tundras go for.

 

The higher gas prices go, the lower the value of full size vehicles drops.

I had a 2001 Tundra and I loved it! I definitely miss that truck, it was much faster than the 4.0 Tacoma and the MPG's weren't too bad.

 

I LOVE 1st gen Tundra's. They are the perfect size compromise between a full size and compact truck. The 4.7L is a real jem. Smooth, great response, feels like a lot more power than its rated for. I prefer the access cab look, and both doors open and the rear seat has decent space too. The 05-06 is the model years to get with the higher output VVT-i but they are typically more expensive. The build quality apears better than the new 07-2011 Tundras in my opinion.

was going to buy a taco a few years ago but the tundra was more bang for your $ due to the taco "cult " keeping prices high

So I got this tundra...has 65000 km on her now
the good
-ride comfort
-tranny is awesome
-engine is potent
-1st gen quality
-4wd system in low is like having a tractor
-looks
-capable tow rig

the bad...not much
-mpg
-dash rattle
-big to park
-timing belt instead of chain= big $ at 140000km/90000 miles

This was my 1st yota truck...lucky to have a small taco now as well

 

Don't know if this is a dead issue, but I drove an '03 Tundra 4.7 SR5 access cab for 130k miles. The power delivery on the Tundra was miles better than the '12 4.0 Tacoma I just got. The Tundra had a very even power to gas pedal pressure ratio, while the Tacoma has a very flat one that spikes at about 90% gas. i.e. in the Tundra, I press the gas a little, I go a little, press the gas a little more, I go a little more, press the gas a lot, go a lot. In the Tacoma, I press the gas a little, I go a little, I press the gas about halfway, I go a little, I press the gas kind of hard, I go a little, I jam my foot to the floor, my tires chirp and I go like stink.
My biggest gripe about the new one is that the range on my Tundra was 325 if I did all city driving, and upwards of 440 if I was on a road trip. The Tacoma shows about 1/8 tank at 250 miles, and the light goes on before 300. That is disappointing.
The Tundra engine felt like I could pull a train, the Tacoma, not so much.

 

I've got a 2003 Access Cab 4X4. So for it is a great truck!

 

My dad has an 2000 Tundra Access Cab 4x4 with the 4.7. Thing is great. The last time it was in the shop was to fix a broken tailgate handle. 4WD has never failed him and neither has the motor or tranny. He has like 160k on his. The 4.7 blows my 3.4 out the water. I like the gas pedal better on the 4.7 motors compared to my Tacoma.
