not worth it at all. might aswell sell it and spend a few extra thousand and get a 4X4. the amount of money and work/parts just isnt worth it.

yeah man, the $$ u'd spend on a transfer case, new front axle and labor and everything else would cost more than its worth. like this guy ^^^ said, if u need/really want 4wd, ur most logical road is to sell the prerunner and grab a new or used 4x4

Not that I would ever consider converting but are those prices new or used/junk yard?

First, how mechanically inclined are you, and is there a $$$ limit to what you are willing to spend?

damn.. i got my tacoma for free last year from my brother, and i already spent a lot of money on after market part. the only reason i did that because i talked to a guy and he said i could get the parts to make a 4x4 for around 1500.

they were used, a few of them were reserve met current bids on ebay.
    an lkq price.
    and new toyota.

deff kinda low, it was just a rough throwing up of numbers to give the op an idea of how much it would be. The 1500 the OP was quoted wouldnt even cover labor at any respecting shop.

And not to mention he would need a 4x4 wiring harness, and would have to buy all the shit to make it work.

Check out TTORA. A couple people have done the conversion for another $1000.
Its not hard as everything bolts right up to the Prerunner .

You don't need a 4x4 harness. The first gens are very easy to convert.
