Looks like that ones was just opposite of the Virginia one. The CO one was from both sides of the fault being pulled away from each other, 5.3 magnitude, 2.5 miles deep. That's a pretty typical style of deformation for the basin and range province, which CO is in...

Yeah, it's quite a trip. The Monterey Bay Area used to be part of the Tehachapi Range (tail end of the Sierra Nevada, near Mojave).
