Car speaker advice needed

Hey guys, I need some advice on which speakers would best replace the stock ones. I plan on keeping the head unit for now to see how well the sound inproves. Just thought I'd see what you all have already put in.

To my understanding, the compontent speakers are those that come with separate mid bass speakers and tweeters? If I do purchase this type, can I just replace the mid bass one for the lower stock speaker in the front door, and the tweeter for the upper speaker in the front door? Also, would I need any mounting brackets for the upper tweeters? I do know I can some lower mounting brackets at ********* for the lower speakers.

Are Components the best to use? And would I need the purchase crossovers for these? Do any of you know of any great deals out there for replacement speaker? Any suggestions would be great!

IF you are just looking for straight replacements, I would tell you to look no further than Pioneer Ts-a series 3-way speakers. I have Ts-a's in everything I own and love the sound. Great bass response, clear crisp highs, and good mids as well. Makes a world of difference, over the stock single coil paper cones.

As far as a companant set up, I do not know first hand, but I am pretty sure that is will require a crossover, as well as running new wiring as you'll need to somehow differentiate the highs from the lows, and send that signal to the appropriate speaker. At-least that's how I think it works.

I'd say go with a straight replacement, stock junk for a good Pioneer 3-way, get the wiring harness adapters from ********* as well and you are ready to just plug and play.

Should I look at the 2-way or 3-ways...or the components?

 

I have a set of TS-a1672R's in the rear doors, and I have a set of TS-a1668's in the front doors. Both are 6 1/2 3-ways. Based on the selection crutchfield has for Pioneer, I would go with a full set of four 1672's the 1668's I have are older, you won't find them, I had them in another vehicle and I took them out before I got rid of it.

Crutchfield supplies the mounting brackets to adapt any speaker they sell to your vehicle, but that means that they only have to mounting kits for 5 1/4 or 6 1/2. You can put 6x9's in the front doors if you go with a ********* kit. So you could look at 6x9's for the front if you want.

All that said, I'd stay away from the componant set-up as it seems to be a whole lot more work, for no real difference in audio quality. If you want to stick with what crutchfield offers I'd say get the 1672's and enjoy, if you want a little (I stress LITTLE) more bass response, then get the 1672's for the rear doors and get a set of Pioneer TS-a whatever's in 6x9 for the front doors and get the ********* front door mounting kit.

I would have put 6x9 in my front doors if I had had to buy speakers, but I had the four 6 1/2's already so all I had to buy was the ********* kit.

Definately go with 3-way over 2-way.

Okay say I were to take that route and put in the 1672's in all four doors. If I still want more bass, how hard would it be to put in a box and amp. Also will the stock head unit be compatible to do that? However I do not want to do that if the bass will completly overtake the vocal presence of the music. I've been researching a lot and its becoming a little more expensive the more I dig. Also how much difference will the 6X9's be over the 6.5's? Do you think that I can get away with just swapping the front speakers? Maybe even the stock tweeters?

 

i noticed a HUGE difference between the stock cd player and the pioneer deh8500 head unit i have now, just so you know...i dont believe my taco came with a stock amplifier for the speakers because i just have the base system, but i am selling this cd player too because i bought a touchscreen one if you're interested.

 

I just ordered some Kicker 6.5's i should get them mid week. I will let you know how they sound. I'm with Mav on the compontnet set it's alot of work to make them sound just right. Most of them include a crossover but that a whole different monster.I posted a discount code in th a/v section for $20 off from Crutchfield. If you decide to go with stock size they include the mounting brackets and the wire harness free with purchase of any speakers. Circuit City the wire harnesses are $12 each. Not sure how much the adapters from Taco tunes are. Let us know what you decide.

i'm not sure if you can connect it to the stock radio but i do know there is a way to do it with an aftermarket head unit. just buy mine and be done with it lol

 

im thinking about the ts-a6992 speakers for the front doors... Is there a noticeable difference in sound between a 5-way speaker and a 3 or 4 way??? I just figured if im going to get new speakers, why not go with the best I can find... does the more "ways" mean better sound or what??? Im partial to pioneer since I have a pioneer head unit and kinda want to keep the brands the same, also, do you guys recommend an amp to help power these speakers or should I just leave it alone???

My tweeters on top of my front doors are clarion, not sure what model. I have cousin that installs this stuff and I told him that I wanted it to sound good and go from there but stay under $500.00, so that's what he gave me. The memphis sound AWESOME!

 

If you amp has speaker level inputs then you can just tap into the rear speaker wires and wire it up that way. Thats how I have my alpine amp wired. If not you will have to get an RCA adapter to tap into the wires that way and then run the RCA to your amp. Hope that helps.

 

Ya I have about a 3 year dual amp. Not the best but goes have a hi level input.

ok. I've decided to go with components. I will hook them up to an amp as well. I already have an amp. Its a dual 460 (230 X 2 ch) watts. It's capable of 115W x 2 of RMS power.

Also I've read that speaker are sold in 2, 4 or 8 ohm ratings. I was on crutchfield looking at the speakers, but did not see a ohm rating on them just a RMS section. Does it matter what speakers i choose as long as the RMS is sufficient for the amp?

Just need some help choosing which set of componets will be the best for this amp. Any suggestions or advice?

I have a Crossfire 2402 amp on my stock speaker and it sounds great. I have a memphis sub and amp too, which also sounds great. Since amplifying the speakers they now keep up with the sub. I will recommend memphis PR speakers as I had them in my WRX and they were great.

 

Most car speakers are at 4ohm. What set of components did you get?

 

Have not bought them yet. I wanna spend around 250 for the speakers. They have some good deals on techronics.com but I'll still need to get mounts, amp kit, and wire. Here's a link on some JL audio's I was looking at.

Personally I'd go with the JL's. I've never heard any complaints from them and I have personally heard them. I havent heard the Polks but I'm sure they would sound pretty good as well if you give them the power.

I owned a set of JL components and really liked the midbass but the tweeter was really disappointing (it may have been the JL crossover but I doubt it). Eventually I went to a coaxial from Pioneer, I lost the really good low end but I felt like the overall sound was better. So my recomendation is JL (coaxs or components) if you want a solid low end and something else like Pioneer if you want a more complete sound.
