Can you identify (and source) this electrical component?

My 4x4 green light started blinking the other day while driving in 2WD. Checked the switch and everything is in the right position. Try playing around (flipping in 4hi, 4lo, 2wd) and nothing changes.

I start following the T/Sing procedures here and my switch isn't reading the correct resistances in 4-hi! Instead of spending $50 for a new switch I'd rather spend a few bucks for a resistor.

So, the resistor (I assume) is Black with one silver stripe and has G6.V on it. Here's an image (not mine) :

 

the black with silver line looks like a capacitor to me

not sure though, caps legs usually come out from the same side...

 

those look like diodes, not resistors or caps.. diodes always have 1 silver line telling you which way the current flows.

That looks like a diode to me. The silver stripe shows that is the "cathode". Put your multimeter in the diode checking mode and see what voltage drop you get across it (black of the meter to the stripe). It would be best to test out of circuit (removed).

My el-cheapo meter doesn't have a diode test setting. When measuring resistance I expected to see ALOT of resistance one way and not much going the other. I get a quick reading of low resistance, then no connectivity. I get this each time I touch the probe to the diode. Is this expected behavior, or indicative of a bad component?

I've verified I'm getting good contact. I get no connectivity going the other direction.

On 2-hi and 4-lo it's reading correct.

On 4-hi I have:
a short burst of low resistance (then no connectivity) going from pin 5-4 and pin 2-4
No connectivity going from pin 4-5 or pin 4-2.

The existing solder joints are good.
