what do you think about push button 4-wheel on 02 tacoma

So i am selling my tacoma to buy this one but i am not sure about the push button? what do you guys think?

 

Doesn't seem as good in your mind. Butt I haven't had any problems knock on wood. Nor have I herd of anybody having any butt its not like I been asking every sole. You will love the auto if you road dogs at all. But I have herd that snow can build up on the shift linkage and you have to clean it out or it won't go into park

 

I have the push button 4wd and I like it. Its nice to be able to hit the 4wd at anytime and not have to stop like the J shifter.

 

You dont have to stop to engage 4WD on the J shifter. At least not in my 1996. Says I can shift into 4WD any time under 50MPH on my sun visor instructional stickers.

4-Lo, yes, you have to be stopped.

 

Oh okay I thought I read you guys had to come to a complete stop to shift into 4hi.

 

I love my push button 4wd, I use it when it rains like piss and just disengage on the fly.

Also when on the trails its a nice touch to swap from 4wd to 2wd for better turning and drifting around tight stuff without having to do anything.

 

I like mine, it works flawlessly everytime. *knocks on wood*

huh..i always stop to engage mine..

 

I love the magic button. On my old truck (86 4Runner) I had to stop and lock the hubs, then use the shifty. It's nice when it's muddy, wet, cold, etc... to not have to get out. I know the hubs don't really have much to do with the button/J-shifter, but I went from having manual hubs and no button, to my 04 TRD with ADD and the button. I like it.

The manual hubs are a little better with the mileage, though...

To shift into 4-hi, I usually slow way down (under 20 or so) and shift into neutral (I've got an auto tranny) and coast a bit. The "clunk" is much less harsh when I do it like this. I figure a louder "clunk" is harder on the drivetrain...

Yeah, what andoskyy says. This is true of 01-04s, too. The ability to shift into 4 hi on the fly with th J-shift is great. With the 5-speed, I just leave it in gear but ease of off the gas so the drivetrain isn't loaded (neither decelerating or accelerating), and pop it into 4h. This is how the manual explains it. No need to slow way down as long as you are under 50.

 

I had that on my 99 4runner. Loved it. Also made it easy for my wife to use if it snowed while she was driving. Instead of telling her how to shit it, just push the button.

 

My F250 had a button. Hated it... never did trust it. I'm old school I guess--I'll keep my manual locking hubs thank you.

 

I am sure you made a wise choice.

 

What's a limited ???? SR5 and TRD were the only two trim packages I was aware of.

Mine's got all that, no light behind the shifter, though... that looks aftermarket.

I think you get a couple extra cup holders, too!
