I have a 2011 double cab, long bed 4x4, trd sport. I just recently put a toytec ultimate lift kit on it and BFG KM2's 285/75/16. I am having a little bit of rubbing on the inner back side of the tire and I believe it is rubbing the lower control arm. I was able to scrape a bit of debris off of there and I am pretty sure its tire residue. It isnt major rubbing, just only while I am turning at the max turn radius and usually going up a hill or something. What is the best way to correct this?

I spoke with toytec about the lift and they told me to measure from the center of the hub to the top of the fender and around 23 inches is supposed to be 3 inches of lift. I am sitting right around 24 inches.

does the rubbing sound loud? if it is its probably just hitting the plastic wheel well pieces that everyone with 285s has to trim pretty much. I don't think the tire would hit the lower control arm ever unless your backspace is worse than stock rims. . truck looks sick btw!

most of the time when you get a lift and larger tires you want a rim that has a backspace of 4.5" or less to keep the tire away from the suspension components , stock is 5.5 i think.

Have a friend get in your truck and crank the wheel and you can probly see where it is rubbing. . also if you go in reverse and crank it thats usually when it will rub the most so you can check it out.

only NEED to do the front, but can do all 4 to keep even.

No. Spacers are not needed it will make the rubbing worse.

The FJ rims have the perfect offset/backspacing for 285's and a 3 " lift. I am willing to bet you are rubbing a little on the fender flare in the back of the wheel well if there has been no trimming done. It is very minimal but it helps a lot.

Also at full lock I do very slightly rub my lower control arm when articulated. It will not hurt anything.

Spacers are a waist of money in your case.

yeah i will just do 4...i am not rubbing the fenders at all now, i guess i will probably be rubbing those after i get these but i can just trim those up

will this affect my alignment at all?

how would it make it worse...i am mechanically retarded so i have no idea here...the only real rubbing i can notice is the stuff on the lower control arm, i havent trimmed the fender at all.

If you put wheel spacers on there it sets the tire further away from the hub making the the radius of the turn larger. This will make the outside of your tire rub the shit out of your fender flares in front and back. It will also make you rub the body mount.

get one of these if you plan to get the spacers and keep them on there.

caged, camburg long travel, 50t leafpack (soon to be installed) light rack over cab, 5pt harnesses etc

but hes rubbing on the controll arm not the fenderwell, so in this case spacers would help him. he said he would trim the fender well also if it rubs.

OP you can also get really small wheel spacers like 1/8 inch, and that should correct the controll arm rubbing issue

Agreed, the 1/8th" spacer may help a little but the spidertrax spacers will make it rub so bad in other places it is just not worth it.

i guess i dunno how the spacer works then, i thought the original lugs attached to the spacer, and then the spacer had its own to attach the wheel to?

the tiny spacer just goes in behind the wheel over the lug bolts so there is still enough lug nut holding the wheel on. The larger spacers mount by themselves and have their own lug bolts to mount the wheel on.

If your rubbing on the LCA I am guessing it's only at full lock.If that's the case just deal with it and move on. As others said pulling the wheel out could create more rubbing issues. I would rather have my tires rub on smooth metal on the LCA at full lock rather than the fender wells and flare at less than full lock. How often do most of us cut the wheel that hard anyway? If your rubbing the LCA before full lock than maybe consider the spacers. Not real sure where your rubbing so I figured I would just throw in my 2 cents.
