got my new uws low profile toolbox installed!

Thanks to everyone who had previously posted and gave me the idea for this model, the black looks really good with my silver theme, I can't wait to get my All-Pro Bumper to add even more black to the truck. My tint is fairly dark too so the color scheme is working. Enjoy the pics, I included some close up pics to give more detail.

SOUND ADVICE - ORDER FROM A LOCAL STORE!

I tried ordering this from eBay and even though I intially saved $78, I ended up with a banged up tool box that I had to rewrap and ship back, definitely not worth the trouble, it's such a hassle to have something this large come through freight, I'd rather bite the bullet and pay at the local store for something like this. Because it is aluminum it can be dented fairly easy in transit.

So after the online fiasco, I ended up getting this one from Rack N Road, awesome service and great people to deal with. Hindsight is 20/20!

looks good. I like the low profile ones as well. What do u do for a living? i see vacuums and paintbrushes.

 

I manage a credit union but moonlight as a handy man, pretty much a little bit of everything. I keep my basic "fix on the first visit" tools inside the box, the big tools just get placed in the bed when I do larger jobs, table saw, chop saw, compressor... I have the bed extender so I still can fit a bunch of stuff, plus if the job is ever too big, I just rent a trailer.

Oh and funny you saw paint brushes, those are actually not for painting but for dusting and clearing up an area, it's my secret tool. Like cleaning areas before caulking, or around areas before ceiling on the roof, vents, etc. I just buy the $1 brushes and beat em up.

Thats cool. I do repairs and stuff on houses. My work truck is not as organized as yours though. lol

 

Oh don't pay me any compliments, it's brand new, give me a week or two and it won't be so pretty... This box is perfect for what I need to keep with me at all times. I love the convenience and security it provides!

Get a fork mount and mount it on the toolbox. Problem solved

Unless your talking bout dirt bikes or Motorcycles...

 

zero niner - did you have any trouble with the j-bolts being angled once you tightened them down...i have the same box and no matter where i drilled the hole the bolts were never perfectly perpendicular to the box. that lip on the inside of the box seems to be right where the hole would need to be in order for the bolts to be straight - if that makes any sense to you.

 

Yup, makes total sense. Here's what I did.

I took the washer, put it right up to the inside lip and marked the center 4 inches from the front and 4 inches from the rear. I then drilled a 3/8" hole in order to "fish" the j hooks through. I "pre-fished" them from underneath, putting the straight piece up from the bottom and turning them flat on the inside of the box. Then I placed the box on the rails, got them centered and took a deep socket to tighten them. With JUST the deep socket in my hand, I tightened it as hard as I could before my grip slipped, this seemed like enough to get them tight. I will double check in a week to be sure. You can see how close the j hooks are in the last picture.

i pretty much did the same as you too. the first time i mounted it the bolts were off on really bad angles and i checked it a week later and the nuts were loose (i could spin them with my fingers) so i re-drilled the holes as close to the lip as i could. the bolts are still angled but not as bad and its been about 3 months and they havent loosened. i might buy some RTV or a similar high strength sealant and just completely cover the bolt, washer and nut with it - we used to do that on the helicopters i worked on when we didnt want a nut to come loose.

I was not a fan of the toolboxes on Tacomas but that one is really sharp looking.....the low profile does not block any view when looking out the back windows and because it's black blends in well. The biggest drawback and which is the reason that I didn't really like toolboxes is that if you have a shortbed, like I do, the toolbox cuts the bed in half pretty much. Anyway it looks good!!!
