Currently you can buy a Tundra for less than a Tacoma. The factory is giving dealers money to sell Tundras.

I looked yesterday on Bank of Americas car buying center & a loaded 2wd doublecab Tundra was around $25,000. 4x4 was around $28,000.

The same was true back when I got my tacoma in late 08. I could have stolen a tundra but down here in miami there were no 4x4's and I still wanted a tacoma.

Well what led me to the TACO in the first place was the smaller engine to save on gas, i think if i wanted a V8 i would just go full size

Toyota should rather make a v-6 as powerful as the ford f150 v-6. Or a twin turbo I4.

Yeah, I don't see why they can't come up with a V6 that does better than 236 hp and 18 mpg....seems like they are behind the times.

Then again it is reliable and people are still buying tacos like crazy so they have little motivation to change it.

I don't need more than 236hp... but it would be nice if the 4.0 was more fuel efficient at that HP.

I was seriously considering a v8 to get 400+ HP but recently found out with the TRD supercharger and the URD EMI you can push that supercharger up to 500HP but I'd probably run it at 425HP. Good clean alternative to the V8 swap if you are looking for just power. But you can get better efficiency out of an unboosted V8 no doubt

Without getting flammed too much for this comment: I wouldnt mind the Ford's 3.5L V6 EcoBoost™ Engine in our Tacomas with 365 hp and 420lbs-ft of trq. :crapstorm:

A TRD S/C can't even get me to that kinda hp and trq.

Anyone that claims that they bought the v6 for the MPGs is delirious. My 4.0 has seen 20mpg maybe once, and it's not like a drive like a bat-outta-hell every wehre I go. The v8 would not have to work as hard as the v6 and would probably get BETTER gas mileage. There is not a doubt in my mind that the rest of the Taco's components and drivetrain would hold up with the 4.6.

As far as towing goes: The v8 may not increase the capabilities too much, but it would make things easier. Every v8 that I've driven (with the exception of the dog Chevy 305) has had such a smooth power band, and I would love that in the TACO.

I defenitely understand that people can get just as much power out of 6, and even 4 cyl, but in my experience, those power adders (turbo, s/c, nitro) are hell on motors. I realize that some factory turbo/super charged vehicles can be reliable daily drivers, but I think a smaller v8 would make sence for the Tacoma.

Not to say that I'm not satisfied with the 4.0, but the option for a v8 would be a welcomed one IMO. I would probably be pissed because I can't afford it, however. I think cost would be the biggest factor for most people.

Yeah I also think the v6 has enough power, but I wonder if it had more power that it would be more efficient. I would think that an improved v6 with more power/efficiency would be the best bet though.

    I'd rather have Toyota's 306hp v-6.

    That would be nice.

Only good thing about the V8 is that it sounds better than the V6. I drove a V8 4runner before I bought my V6 and I was not impressed at all with that turd. And the V6 gets may better milage
