The owners manual does state conventional oil and my thought was that the manual was made a year ago and outdated. The TOYO Care was sent in April and most current. I don't see any marketing BS in it, it shows numbers for road side assistance, along with name, vin, syn oil.

Another thing to consider if you have the same packet I got is that the dealer is only going to check your oil at 5k and will change it at 10k miles. The only motor I have ever run conventional oil for 10k miles were the ones I did not plan to keep much longer.

BTW TOYO Care never called me back

My plan is to run the oil for 1k miles and change back to M1 EP and not going back to a dealer unless it is broke.

Long as you got the right viscosity and are planning on the scheduled oil change intervals, it doesn't really make a shit what they put in there.

For what it's worth though, I'd never let the dealer touch my vehicle for service. Either do it myself, or independent mechanic if I don't have the tools/know-how.

Once again, the service manager told me he would only check oil at 5k miles and change at 10k miles.
The toyo care guy said the oil has to be changed every 5k miles and I have to use conventional or it is a warranty issue if a failure occurs. I did bring up the Morrissey Act but he did not know what is was talking about.
Point is these guys are totally out of synch.

Just more reasons not to have them service your vehicle.

Agree, I thought I was being smart and going to get something back by getting a free syn oil change. What a mistake.

I'm having dealer do my free oil changes for now. I pay an extra $25 for synthetic. Hopefully I'm getting what I paid for, but there is no way to tell. I don't trust stealerships. They are profit driven. At Longo Toyota, they charge $69.95 to change a $5 cabin filter . Soon as I'm out of free service coupons, I'm doing my own oil changes & cabin filters.

    You're not.

The biggest reason I don't have my oil changed for me is time. It takes 15 minutes each way to get to/from the dealership, plus time waiting there.

I can change my own oil in my drivewaylotspace in 10 minutes. The hour I save is more valuable to me.

Since you have a V6, you will get a Dino oil change at 10k and 20k and that's it. The sludge will be well underway before the TOYO Care ends.

Oil change @ 5k intervals, not 10k & 20k. Is that recommended intervals for 2011's? I would never go more than 3k with dino oil.

Yes, isn't that a crock of shit?....No synthetic for you but go 10k before we change the dino for free...what your motor blew up? Well, you didn't change oil soon enough so your warranty is void..........I can see that scenario playing out.

Service manager told me he is reimbursed for oil changes at 10k intervals on my vehicle and will only change it at 10k and 20k.

TOYO Care told me the oil should be changed at 5k and was going to call the service manager to make a change for my vehicle.

    NOT going back there.

just fyi.....took my taco in for the first "free" service. they give me the yadda yadda yadda about coverting to syn fluids. my motor isnt designed to go 10,000 between changes blah blah blah. but they did change oil and do all their checks and balances, rotated tires & balanced. i double checked everything when i got it home. so all in all it wasnt too bad. they even replaced the tint on the drivers window under warranty because it bubbled up in one spot.

It took TOYO HQ a week to call back and stated their packet is wrong and should read conventional oil and I need to change oil at 5k or warranty will be void if the engine fails. I think they are FOS and reconsidering upgrading wifes '05 4runner for a '12 and will look at Explorer instead.

Wait, what is wrong? This information matches what all documentation states for my 2011 V6.

Are you seriously going to cry over this?

No crying here dude. Let me explain it to you again as simple as I can get. The TOYO care packet states synthetic oil and since it says that the dealer will only top off your oil at 5k and change it at 10k intervals with DINO oil. If you feel comfortable about running your new truck for 10k miles with DINO oil then you are good to go. Let me know if you need more explaining.

What viscosity does your oil cap have on it and did you get a TOYO care packet in the mail?
