front tow point

ok, I live a few miles north of Chicago and there can be some pretty bad snow storms up here. I lived in Maine before I was transferred here and I pulled people out of the snow all the time. With winter approaching I'd live to a good strong tow point on the front of my truck but I don't have the cash for a big bad bumper. any cheaper suggestions?

 

What's wrong with the hook under the passenger side of the OEM bumper?

 

You have a hook since you have the OR package on your TX Pro. He doesn't have a hook.

OP. Not sure if this type hook would work for you, but a cheap Smittybuilt hook fits in the two holes on the passenger side.

Yep, only the OR package comes with a highly-overpriced-if-bought-from-the-dealer-separately tow hook.

 

Just get a D-Ring shackle and put it in the closed hoop when you need it.

 

this might work for light extraction but not a good idea to have it at such an angle...

 

This may be true, but it's better than nothing at all.

Also, it's worth mentioning, that its best to NOT pull vehicles out while driving in reverse if you can help it. The front tow point should be used when you need to be pulled out when situations require it.

its better to use the drive side of the gear than the coast side although it shouldnt hurt anything

 

It puts all the stress and weight on your weakest link(cv axles). That's how they break and, yes, that's how my old one broke

 

I'm aware they don't all come with the hook, but it can be added. One of the forum members here is making them for a reasonable cost.
My next suggestion would be this, for about $25:

I put the Tractor supply hook on mine, but it's too damn close to the TRD Skid plate, thinking of switching it to the closed loop hook, then attached a D-Shackle, should I need to be towed out! Just need to find a 2 hole mountable Eyelet...

 

Yes they have the same rotational force from the engine, but when pulling in reverse, the weight of whatever your pulling is pulling the front of the truck down. When pulling forward, it transfers weight from the front to the rear, putting more downward on the rear than the front could ever achieve. Which also gives you more traction pulling forward than reverse. There was a thread on this a while back.

I suggest getting a couple D-shackles while you're at it.

1) In case one breaks

2) If you have to link two straps together. Looping straps together is fine, but getting them back apart after a pull is extremely difficult. Better to link them. EDIT: never mind. That's stupid. I'm an idiot.
