Synthetic Oil Change Intervals.

I know the "What type of oil do you use?" and the "Synthetic vs. Conventional Oil" topics have been beaten to death but I am interested in intervals between oil changes.

I did a little bit of research on Oil Change Intervals and I was just wondering how long other people go between oil changes when using Mobile 1 or any other type of synthetic.

I bought my truck with 21,500 miles on it and I have personally always used Mobile 1 with a Bosch filter and have been going 5,000 miles between changes just to be on the safe side. But from what I've read maybe you can go longer with synthetic.

I usually do 4,000 ish with Valvoline. It depends on how many miles have been spent driving on dusty roads I guess. I just like keeping things clean. Probably excessively.

 

I do 5K with Redline and a K&N. Works for me.

 

5,000 on the 5 and 10...easy to remember

Mobil 1 and a Napa Gold (wix) filter.

The Jeep is on the same schedule.

Awesome video! I've known that Fram was all hype. So I'm convinced.

 

The manual specifies 7500 for regular service, 5000 for severe service (towing, offroading, stop and go, etc.), if I recall correctly. This is for non-synthetic.

So, doing it more frequently than those intervals with synthetic is a complete waste of time, money, and good oil.

 

Where in the manual did you see the 7,500 for regular service?

I agree that doing more frequent change with synthetic is a waste of time. What would you consider to be a more frequent interval then? 5,000?

 

change it at 5k give or take 100 till i have time. i'd rather be cautious and change mine more often than necessary to make sure she keeps running good. it's not that much effort to change it and i need to rotate my tires then anyways

 

Yes. I am starting on a 7500 interval after strarting with synthetic a couple changes ago with 5000 intervals and no problems. I had no idea what was used by the previous owner, so I was being conservative in case I started getting some leaks, but I've had none.

I'd have to go look. It is either in the owner's manual, or in the service record booklet.

My Land Cruiser gets 9-10k oil change intervals. Always a used oil analysis after each change. I've had the best results with Valvoline and Amsoil full-syn fluids. I use WIX, but have used K&N and Amsoil EaO as well.

 

I do the filter change every 5000 miles and change the Amsoil every 15000 seems to be doing fine.

Just a note to all posters: The OPs truck is a 1st gen 3.4, so opinions for the same spec vehicle and its factory-recommended intervals are probably most helpful.

 

Yea and at 3.99 for toyota filter why wouldn't anyone use oem.

 

i use royal purple and K&N filter usually every 3kish but extended this time due to impinging hurricane, i aint changin my oil before it

I run Mobile One and change it every 6 months (which comes out to around 2,500 miles.)

 

5k miles with toyota oil filter and penn platinum or ultra...used ultra the last 2 changes.
