Tikka!?!?!?

A guy at the gun shop highly recommended them (30-06 Springfield). Not quite sure, need some opinions!!!

I have a Tikka T3 30-06. I love it. They are made on the same production line as the Sako but for a little less$. Very smooth bolt, and accuracy is excellent. It is an outstanding rifle. That is my opinion.

 

Thanks. What is that warranty, 3 rounds within an inch for the life of the gun!?? Ridiculous!

 

I agree. Never had one but I've been tempted several times. VERY smooth action.

Ive never messed with a tikka but from all the reading ive done all I have heard is positive things from them.

 

They are Finnish.

Yes Beretta owns Tikka and Sako. Beretta even sells a T3 under their name I believe.

same here except mine is chambered .270 win. the bolt it actually smoother than a modern Remington 700 in my opinion

 

I think I would have gotten the .270 or .308 if I had to if I had to do it again. Also if you ever want to change your stock http://www.bellandcarlson.com/ just started making tikka stocks. I have the T3 hunter which is a wood stock, but it is a little heavier than the lite. I am considering getting a new stock.

 

I went .270 because it's almost the exact same round as the .308 same case and everything just about except that it shoots a whole Lot flatter.

 

I almost got a Tikka when I was looking for a deer gun. I ended up with a used Weatherby because the price was right. New, the Tikka is hard to beat for the money.

The .270 Win is a necked down 30.06 and the .380 Win is a shortened 30.06. The .308 retains most of the performance of the 30.06 because when the load was worked up there were more modern powders available so they could get better performance out of the reduced volume of the cartridge.

Basically, the .270 is a lighter projectile (130gr is pretty standard) pushed by a 30.06 (159gr) load, so you have a high muzzle velocity and flatter trajectory. The .308 is a shortened 30.06, pushing the same projectile (150gr) slightly slower (2800fps vs 2900fps), but making up some performance with more modern powder.

PS. I am no hand loader. I suspect that powders do not differ much between the 30.06, .270, and .308 in today's loads, but it is my understanding that powder development is the historical reason for each cartridge's geometry and performance that has been standardized since.

 

I have only read GOOD stuff about the Tikka. I'm looking hard at one also!

Bottom line is that the Tikka is a great out of the box gun!
