How hard is it to install a sound system

How hard is it to wire everything myself for my 1st gen. I'm just tryin to save money cuz, the quote that I got said it would be roughly $4-500 for an install. I know there would probably be cheaper places to get an instal at. Theres lots of info on here for 2nd gens but how hard would it be to run wires and everything from my amp to speakers/headunit? Thanks

 

The hardest part for an install is probably the head unit, but it took me all of 30 minutes to solder, shrink wrap, and install my head unit. Running wires is nothing just a few screws, pull carpet back, run the wires into the door, behind seats, wherever, replace screws and trim, done. Just search the fourm for some good directions take your time on the wiring and do it right the first time.

 

Great well the aftermarket headunit is already installed. But I have it crimped right now, thinking I might want to solder it though. Any threads you can think of that have some directions? (besides marv's which is for a 2nd gen)

 

Its really easy... if you have installed one before or you have some one who has help you

easy bu easy, just make sure the battery disconnected and check your wiring/connections 3 times. You dont wanna blow a fuse or fry something.

 

Crimping's alright I did that in my S10 which had an after market hu for 4 years without problems. 6x8's is what I had in my 01 you just have to cut the center bracing out for after market speaker's, or that's how it was with my Kenwood's. And I've always felt more pride in my work knowing I did it myself rather than had someone do it for me, that and save ton of money.

I did the entire install in my 06 double cab. It took me most of a weekend to install everything myself. I went with a new HU with bluetooth, new speakers in front and rear doors, two amps, and a single 12" sub. The most time consuming part was running all new speaker wire and running the wires for the amps.

 

If I can, I'm sure you can. Really only need to know the difference between positive and negative, and not be color blind. Lol

yes to sound deadening. I will probably do the instal myself, seems pretty straight forward, just expensive....

 

It is not as hard as you might think. Do not skimp on the wire or the speakers.
