Anyone w/ a 4 cyl Prerunner and a ARB Locker?

Just wondered if anyone beat me to the punch? I have not seen a 4 cyl "prerunner" with a rear locker yet? Show me I am wrong!

mind posting up a picture of where you mounted the compressor? did you get the H.O. one?

This is the only pic I have with me. Compressor is behind the battery. It's the

$323 ckma12 on-board air compressor high performance 12 volt for air locker differentials and tire inflation

ckma12. High Output with like 33% duty cycle. I can fill up 2 tires straight from 12psi to 35 psi in less than 10 minutes, wait 5 minutes, then do the other 2. Pic doesn't show the tire inflation kit adapter, I added it later on. I'll have to dig up some more pics when I get home.

 

well on the first day i was on my way to BAP. and the gears were used so dont tell me i should have broken the gears in properly cause well they were already broken in haha

 

perfect! thank you, thats the only place i could figure out to mount it. did you have any problems mounting because the fender surface is curved and the compressor base is flat

 

Wasn't that big of a deal actually. the wheel-well just kinda flattened out a bit for the plate when you tighten down the bolts. It's already fairly flat around that spot anyway.

To mount it, I figured out where I needed the plate and made sure there would be enough room for the compressor and that it wouldn't run into the fuse box. Then I marked through the four holes with a pen, and drilled the fender well.

The most difficult part was getting the bolts through the compressor, and the plate and the fender-well, because you have to thread all four bolts through the compressor and the plate before mounting it. Since the compressor can be rotated clockwise or counter clockwise on the mounting plate, the bolts where dangling loose and hard to match up to the four holes simultaneously. What I did was, thread all four through the compressor and the plate, then kinda threaded them one at a time through the fender-well, put a washer and nut on the other end to hold it, and then moved on to the next bolt.

So only two guys thus far. I am sure this will be a small club. McFly, how do you like it? Does it work well with our 5 spd? Do you use it often? Do you feel like you can go just about anywhere you want?

 

Did ARB offer a template or suggest where to mount the compressor? I have been told they recommend where to mount the compressors and all the extras?

 

I love the locker. The locker and the regear are the best mods I've ever done to a truck. I use the locker at Pismo and a few times in my dirt driveway which is kinda steep in places, and I can tell you this: I don't know how anyone can move around in the dunes at Pismo in a prerunner without a locker. It makes a difference. Don't get the wrong impression. It's not 4wd, but it does make a big difference. In my 4x4 taco (r.i.p.) I felt like i could go anywhere. In this, I feel like I can survive in places that I couldn't before without it, but it still couldn't tackle stuff my 4x4 could, no way.

The locker also helps with acceleration in the dirt or sand, and that's good when you need to get up to speed in order to get over dunes or get past sketchy patches of super soft sand. When at Pismo,, the locker stays on the entire time. I don't turn it off. The compressor is also nice to have for refilling the tires when I'm done.

If you install a locker, do a regear at the same time to save $$$

 

The only thing I can remember from the instructions is they wanted you to mount it on a flat horizontal surface out of the reach of dirt and debris and water/moisture.

I don't know about "extras". I have the tire inflation kit if that's what you mean. I keep that in the cab of the truck and bring it out when I need it.

The air hose to the locker you want to run it along the frame, tucked up out of the way. Running it along the brake lines is suggested by ARB. Try to run it smoothly so there are no sudden bends in the line.

ARB includes thou rough instructions with the locker and compressor.
