Smart move saving the payment amount after payoff. The payment you will be making to yourself can still be considered a truck payment on you next truck. It will fill good to write a check for all or a big chunk when you trade again.:D

I paid off my 2006 Doublecab about 2 years ago. I put about 1/2 down and made payments of $221 per month until I decided to pay off the balance. I just wanted the monthly payment to remind me that I don't like monthly car payments. Hopefully I will not have to make another car payment for at least 10 years.

Paid it off in 2008, after I had been doing the My Total Money Makeover plan. Feels great to drive it and really pisses me off when someone hits it in the parking lot. Now i am looking at hardcore bumpers so i can really F2@# up someone else's vehicle when I randomly get hit again.

I owe 42 something and have 4500 in my saving. If I pay it off I would completely drain my saving.

Mine is paid off, but it took 8 years. I first had a 5 year plan with a balloon at the end and then another 3 years to pay off the balloon. Adding all the interest it was probably not the smartest way to do it, but it lowered my payments enough to where it was about $210/month - leaves enough budget for other stuff that's also important.

I paid mine off. Its a long story but I took the cash I got form selling a 97 Jetta my parents bought for me (I admit) when I was going to school. With my Jetta money I drained the rest of my savings and bought a 2000 4x4 Tacoma cash, had a son and decided I needed four doors but I could not afford a second gen (or 4 door 1st gen for that matter) since the hospital already drained my savings. So I bought a wrecked one for $6k and sold my old Tacoma for $8K and used the extra cash to get my new truck on the road again. Still no regrets, but yeah obviously not the road most traveled.

It feels great when that $400+/month payment goes away and that money goes into your pocket instead!
