I have an 18" glasspack, which I will say may be just a bit long... 12 or so is the best length I'm thinking. And yes, I still have the 2 rear cats deleted. I have the TRD intake and yes I am currently still single in, single out.

6% Tint all around, Toyota all-weather floor mats, Toyota bed extender and skid plate, Python 991 remote-start alarm, oem cruise control and class III hitch were all installed within a couple months. I then installed Icon c/o's and Icon's 3-leaf aal with 17x9" GA9's and 285/70/17 Goodyear Duratrac's. The DRL mod was done, as was a custom rack setup similar to the org. cross bars. Blacked out headlights bought online, and a BOSS 1500 under-seat sub installed along with a Pioneer double-din DVD player
Thanks for the reply, memario. Why do you say the 18" glasspack is too long? Which exact glasspack did you go with, b/c I was looking at doing an AT AR25 resonator when/if the time came? The AR25 looks to be 10" long for the chamber (14" total length).

The reason I say 18" is too long is because for my tastes, I think it tamed my sound just a tiny bit more than I had hoped. Its still a badass sound, just not "perfect". I'm picky about it though... I believe the glasspack is a Thrush glasspack. Word to the wise, if you get a glasspack, install it with the louvers facing downstream. It will still do just fine taming the rasp. If you install them how they say they are supposed to, expect to hear your old exhaust again in about 2 months... And I think that the 10" chamber would probably be fine too, just to fine tune the sound. All I'm saying is no need to pay 100 for the AT when the others are 30.

hey memario you probably have he nicest sounding exhaust on this site by far! im so new with exhaust and all the lingo you been telling everyone, but say i was gonna get this done for my truck by say, 4 wheel parts, what would i tell them that i want? or is this so custom, that i have to do it? (dont think i could) also did you see any changes in mpg? i wanna get a nice sounding/performance exhaust, with a cold air intake (seems like a good way to gain mpg) you seem to know alot of about this stuff so id thought id ask the guru!

Hey tacoma-user, thanks for the kind words! And I wouldn't necessarily call myself a guru haha, but I try to be as knowledgeable as I can, especially with my exhaust anyway! Well, I am not sure where "SD" is, so I am not quite sure about your emissions standards. With what I have done with my exhaust, it is not legal in California, which is where I am just going to assume you are form. There is hope though. Taking out the rear catalytic converters like I have done will not allow you to pass smog tests. Leaving them in won't free up quite as much power, but you will have the effect of a glasspack, therefore muffling the sound a bit and you will also be able to pass smog! What I have done really isn't all too custom, nothing that a good shop couldn't do in an hour or so if they were given the parts. What I am running is an Aero Turbine 2525 muffler, TRD CAI, and my rear cats deleted as far as sound goes. If you get the 2525 and it is too "raspy" for you, then put on a small resonator and you will be happy as a clam! I did in fact gain some fuel mileage when I did it. I, up until recently was getting about 20 on the interstate, 18.5 avg. Just about a month or so ago, I threw two codes because both of my front cats shit the bed (I found pieces of front cats in my rears when I removed them). I am convinced that the engine is detuning itself... To the tune of I am now getting about 17 avg. None of that will pose a problem for you if you follow the road I did/am doing, so don't worry about that though. I hope I answered pretty much everything... Let me know if you need anything else! Always here to help.

Yeah I live in San Diego, but dang it! Your sounds like a beefy V8 to me it doesn't have that raspy v6 sound. But all your info helped alot, I really like the 2525, but is it consitered a catback, I know some say cat back some don't idk have no clue what the difference is but seems like catback is better? But not as deep? Another exhaust that sounds really good is the dynomax it has a deep sound, I like the 50 series but would want one exit, I hear two makes you lose power. Also what CAI would you recomend shops are saying I'm good with K&N. Thanks alot!

Okay, I will try and answer all of your questions here... Just ask if I don't hit on something. Okay, first I will explain to you what a catback exhaust is. "Catback" is just a term people like to throw around when they are talking about exhausts. What you have in your exhaust system coming directly off of your engine is the exhaust manifold (aka headers, also where your front catalytic converters are). You then have your Y-pipe (where your rear catalytic converters are), followed by the last section of pipe which contains your muffler. All 3 of these pieces are simply bolted together in line from your engine to out the back. When people purchase cat back exhausts, they are generally purchasing a section of pipe that contains a new muffler and usually a new tip. This new piece simply bolts up to the Y-Pipe (which contains the rear cats), therefore negating the need to weld anything as you are getting new pipe, muffler, tip. That is why it is called a catback, because you are essentially getting new components from the catalytic converters to the back of the truck. So a catback is more of an "Ease of Install" kind of thing. It provides no sort of performance or sound increase or decrease compared to mine unless the diameter of the pipe is changed or you think that new pipe makes a difference.

I will admit, dynomax makes a good muffler as well. I am really impressed with their SuperTurbo. Only muffler "proven" to generate more Hp, though the boost is negligible. Having duals does not necessarily mean a loss in power. The more you open up an exhaust though, the less backpressure you have. When you decrease backpressure too much in a vehicle (vehicle dependent), you will lose some low end power, yet you will increase top end. The choice is yours.

As for the Intakes, the main one I would stay away from is the K&N. Worst one of the bunch. If I were you, I would shoot for the TRD CAI, Volant CAI w/ram air, or if you don't take your truck underwater or hard through the elements and are looking for pure performance go for the URD TCAI, badass unit and will cost less than the other 2 previously mentioned.

Hope this answers most of your questions.

Anytime and glad you like it! Keep an eye on this thread, or my truck in general (I really need a build thread someday). I am planning on the DTLT headers soon and will fine tune my system for them then. I am also torn between a S/C or a lift/wheel/tire combo. I figured it out and one of the choices this summer looks possible, but not both.

You will not... if you're interested in it though I can get you very close to the same sound while passing inspection. Search my username on youtube, if I have lights on front and tinted tails, the videos are my current setup. If it is in cab they aren't current. I had a rasp that I wanted to knock out and that's what I did. Just let me know and I can send you individual videos if you want to hear something specific.

Hey man I got an Aero Turbine and my friend told me he couldn't just cut out the old muffler and weld this one in because there would be no brackets to hold it up. How did you install it?

Hey Memario great thread, thanks for all your info. I have been really interested in this AT2525 but your thread helped to explain some stuff to me. However, I'm still unsure what the purpose of a resonator is (besides eliminating drone) and where it goes.

My understanding is. . . (please correct me if I am wrong) the AT2525xl has a built-in resonator and is only $55 more than the AT2525, but I would just need one thing welded on. But, you said just get AT2525 and if needed get aftermarket resonator for $30. Does that mean the exhaust pipe needs to be cut again and resonator welded on?

If this aero turbine sounds better with a resonator, I would rather just get the AT2525xl in place of my old stock muffler, have 2 weld joints and sound bad ass (like yours). But if it dampens the nice sound then I wouldn't want a resonator, I'd just get the AT2525. What are your thoughts on needing a resonator, if all I was wanting to change is the muffler? (no CAI, no deleting cats)
    Thanks a lot,
    J Spoon

    ^^^Anybody???

A guy at my local muffler shop said he could get the AT2525xl for $140 and install for $75 = $215,
or I found a AT2525 online for about $100 and he would still install it for $75 = $175.

Anybody with the resonated one think it's too quiet?
Or anybody without think it's too poppy/raspy?
I was really wanting it this weekend. . .

Alright, let's see if I can't get all of your questions answered here and get you headed in the right direction... First off is the purpose of the resonator. This will be long winded so I can try to help you understand what's really going on. Every engine has a certain sounds that it makes at idle, under load, at redline. These sounds vary between different makes and models of vehicles. In order to make the sounds more manageable on the ears of most people, car manufacturers install mufflers that cut out a lot of the sound and make the ride nice, quiet, and enjoyable from inside the cab. Then you have people like me, who like their vehicle loud, and have a certain sound that they want their vehicle to have. I chose to install an aftermarket muffler in place of the stock one. I chose the AT2525 as I figured that it would be the best fit for me. Over time, the rasp that occurs in the 2300-3000RPM range really started to get to me, so I decided that I would do something about it. Therefore I installed the resonator (some 6 months after originally installing the AT2525). A resonator uses specific materials and geometries to delay sound waves in order to cancel out exhaust sound waves. What this does is help tame some of the most outrageous sounds that come from an engine. In my case I used it to cut my rasp down. A resonator can be placed before or after the muffler in an exhaust system (most commonly before), or in some cases people will run them all by themselves. If you ever hear someone mentioning that they have a glasspack, it essentially is just a resonator.

You are correct in believing that the 2525XL has a built-in resonator. For the longest time I was in denial because AT sells their own 15" resonator, and so that is what I had convinced myself that it was. I got my hands on a 3030XL and was put in my place. I have slowly come to appreciate the 2525XL for what it is and the benefits that it provides to the user who wants a weld in muffler and not have to dick with it. I have found that many people want "loud", but they don't realize what loud really is. That is a decision that you will have to make by yourself though. If you want to be heard from a solid block or 2 away, go with just the 2525. At that point, if you think it is too loud, you will likely have to look for another solution (putting in a resonator being one of those options). If you want to walk into the shop once, have them weld you in a muffler and be happy with what you have done, go for the 2525xl. The xl will likely be a little louder than mine, and not quite as deep, but for 99 guys out of 100 they won't know the difference.

So really, the call is up to you. If you want pure volume and don't mind the rasp (plus some drone on the interstate), go for the 2525. If you want a little smoother sound with less rasp, I say spring for the XL. Whichever route you choose, I almost assure you'll be happy. I hope I kinda answered everything you were looking for. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask.

Couple other things (for everyone): I try to stay updated on this thread as well as others at all times. If I fail to answer something in one of them, I am probably not ignoring you. The post or thread probably just slipped through the cracks on me... Shoot me a PM with a link and I will get back to you. Also, if there is something that you would like to see that I didn't cover in Youtube as far as video is concerned, let me know. I realize that a few of them are old and are not representative of my current setup. If you want to see something, let me know.

Did you notice any performance gains with the Aero Turbine and deleting the cats? I read up on the muffler and really like what I found out... No packing to fall apart like in other mufflers (magnaflow) yes and that happened to me before...

Truck sounds great BTW! I might just weld in the muffler for now and leave kitties in...LOL
