Homemade front bumper

Thanks I have made some cosmetic modifications to it already. If it ever stops raining I will post some new pics

 

No doubt. my lower back is feeling it today.

 

Some cosmetic changes made. Still have to add two recovery shackles and a skid plate.

 

Great job on the homemade pumper! you definitely got skills. I like where you are going with it. My only constructive criticism is nothing that has not been said already. I do think it might look a little cleaner if you could some how reduce the size of the gap between the grill/headlights and the top of the bumper. Also work on the transition between the fender and the bumper.

Just a side not your truck looks really good over all and I like where you are going with the bumper. A person once told me "if you can buy it, build it."

looks good! im in EDEN right now. and are you going to take you up to just under the heat lights and meet the body more or not? and yeah i have not seen many moded trucks up here. (maybe a few over the years) seen some with bull bars and stuff. maybe a brush guard or 2. see allot trucks with head ache racks. (at least around this aria)

 

Definately going to fill and blend some body gaps. Gotta take my time and think about whats going to look the best. Thanks brother.

have a shelf for a winch welded onto the inside of the bumper already. When I have the money I am going to buy a winch and then all I have to do is cut out for the size of whatever winch I get. All I will have to do is relocate my license plate.

 

I think it looks nice. I always appreciate someone doing work themselves if they have the capability. Nice work and good luck with the rest.

Far better than anything I can do, but I have to admit it does nothing for me. Your truck looks like it has a fat lip. But pretty much all Full size pickup aftermarket bumpers look like that. If it's what you like and it does it for you...power on man.

 

i think if you cut off the mounts and raised it up about 2" or 3" it would fit a lot better.

for the DIY

 

I agree it would look a lot better although It would not be as strong. I designed the bumber so that a direct hit would transfer the energy perfectly and in a straight line through the frame. In order to raise it up the mounting brackets would have to be made on an upward angle of about 30 degrees placing all the energy on the bolts and the thin toyota mounting plate instead on straight though the frame. I will sacrifice the looks for the function

 

i think it looked better before you increased the gap between the bumper and the grill.

i still vote to raise it. it will still be plenty strong... gusset it and youll be fine

 

Your frame is exposed to more damage if the opposing force is not directly in line with it. Refer to engineering 101. Structuraly the area of your truck that can take the greatest opposing force is one that meets it exactly head on and not at an angle. Thats all Im saying.

 

There is no question that it would look better. I have gussets already running the whole width. I am thinking about filling the gap with a steel mesh set back painted black. How do you think that will look

better than it does now but it does look like it is the wrong size. a little narrow too. It took my 2-3 times before i made my bumper the way i liked it...

to make it stronger i made the main part in line with the frame and added a lower section that bolts and ties into the bottom of the crossmember. i also have gussets going down to the main mount
