Homemade Deer Feeder

Took a trip to the woods to set up my homemade deer feeder almost got the taco stuck...Almost! It was a beautiful morning!

I too have a home made deer feeder, though we usually refer to it as our landscaping.....

 

You didn't glue that PVC together did ya? I can smell that cement a block away, imagine what deer think of it.

 

Nope... it holds about 20lb. of corn and lasts about a week...

 

NOW that is over the top!!!!! so simple and easy, you can bet I will make some.

i made something similar to that. Deer chewed on the pvc to get the corn out, as well as the squirrels. Re think that idea. lol

 

Those look good man. Glad the Taco came out alright.

We made some similar to those. If you have any problem with moldy or wet corn in the bottom you could try what we did.

Through the top of the pipe and cap drill a hole through it and put a small rope through it so it can be hung on a low tree limb. Then for the bottom just leave the pipe straight with no fittings on the bottom and let it hang about 2 or 3 inches above the ground. As the critters eat the corn coming straight down out of the pipe, more will work its way down to the ground. This would keep from any moisture gathering and ruining any corn in the bottom.

Its a little cumbersome to take it out of the tree, feed the rope through the lid to be able to add corn, but it keeps the corn from molding. You can also ratchet strap it to a straight tree without having to add the holes in the top.

I made another feeder out of a barrel one time but it got chewed all to pieces, I think not having anything on the bottom of these pipe feeders helps keep the critters from chewing on them as bad when they run out of feed.

 

I like that feeder. Sometimes the simplest things work the best. The only problem with something like that here in Texas is the damn pigs would tear it up. Plus a group of pigs could eat all of the corn in 1 sitting.

 

nice setup. getting a week out of 20lbs?! i have a 6" version about six feet tall and it will be emptied in a couple of days this time of year. no pics of the feeders ( i have a few 4" also), but mine are slightly different. i use an elbow at the bottom and a piece of pvc cut in half in it about 18" long w/drain holes. it makes a nice mini-trough.

 

This was today’s adventure... I decided to go fill some of my feeders since my buddy took his f350 with 38'' tires down to the camp last weekend I figured I could make it too.... It was going good till I got in his frozen cross ruts and my truck was sideways on the trail… but with a little digging and some cardboard I got out!!

what kind of screen or mesh is that. what did you put in middle of square
to support weight. i have made some great feeders out of pvc, but they
don't hold enough.
