Was talking to a guy today about trucks and such.

I told him I was thinking about taking off the mud flaps on my truck. He goes and rants about it being illegal because it would allow dirt and mud to be flung off my truck onto other peoples.

I think this sounds like complete b.s., but I could see that somehow a f'd up law like that got passed.

Is this legit or complete junk?

Some states require mudflaps on trucks that are lifted or have wheels that extend beyond the body. Need to check with your state vehicle code and/or inspection standards.

Just bigger tires. May get a 3 inch lift down the road though.

I think each state is different, IDK about GA, but I do see plenty of trucks lifted or not w/o them. Maybe you can find out on the local dmv website? :notsure: I trimmed my front ones down.

Its illegal in some states but usually you wont get hassled unless you have a lot of lift or really wide stance

Take off the front ones and leave the rear ones.

That's what I did for 2 years till I got fiberglass bedsides, now I have none and I have had police behind me all the time and haven't gotten hassled and I live in California where we have 1000000000000x more laws than other states.

    This is what I found

    http://www.liftlaws.com/georgia_lift_laws.htm

    Georgia Code - Motor Vehicles & Traffic - Title 40, Section 40-8-75

Every bus, truck, full trailer, semitrailer, and pole trailer, with the exception of local haul pulpwood trucks and local haul waste collection dumping trailers, shall be equipped with suitable metal protectors or substantial flexible flaps on the rearmost wheels to prevent, as far as practicable, such wheels from throwing dirt, gravel, rocks, water, or other materials on the windshields of following vehicles. Such protectors or flaps shall have a ground clearance of not more than one-half of the distance from the center of the rearmost axle to the center of the protector or flap under any conditions of loading of the vehicle and shall be at least as wide as the tires they are covering; provided, however, that if any such bus, truck, full trailer, semitrailer, or pole trailer is so designed and constructed that the foregoing requirements are accomplished by means of fenders, body construction, or other enclosures, then the protectors or flaps provided for in this Code section shall not be required.

I grew up in SD, and drove many trucks all without mud flaps, and it seemed as long as you did not have tires which were wider then the body, you would not get hassled. Probably why they are cool with you now that you have the new bedsides.

Looks like fenders/mudflaps are only required on commercial vehicles in GA.

You think it's a f'd up law that says "hey don't spray your shit all over other people's cars, crack their windshields and damage their paint"? What's f'd up is that we need laws to force people to be conscientious of others.
