weird suspension noise.

so i installed my lift this weekend, absolutly love it, but when test driving the truck after the install i got run off the road at about 75mph and basically jumped it through a storm drainage ditch. got about 3 feet of air, im acctually impressed the truck is ok but now i have a kind of squeak clunk noise when compressing the right front corner suspension, i havent taken the truck apart yet ill be doing that in the morning but just wondering if anyone has had a simmilar experience when the clank noise happens i can feel it when i put my hand on the coilover, i have inspected the mounts and they are still solid could it be something inside the shock it was enough compression that my brand new uca got slammed into the bottom of the inner fender, the uca does seem alright though im just looking for sugggestions of where to star looking in the morning to determine if its the shock or uca or maybe even something else that i fucked up. i dont even get my new tires installed untill monday. this sucks. better than getting t boned by an f-250 though.

 

Broken shock maybe? Not really the smartest thing to do man. You gotta be real careful if you're gonna get any air on a somewhat stock suspension....and I emphasize, REAL CAREFUL.

IIRC the light racing UCA's arent really built to be abused either.

 

thats kinda what i was thinking, not sure exactly how to test that? other than replace and try a new one.

 

Someone will chime in I'm sure. I've never broken one. I do know they're the weaker link in the system though. If you shake the tire from side to side, can you reproduce the noise? Also, if you jump on your bumper or something to compress the front end, does the truck bounce?

 

yeah gotta compress the left front to make the noise, i would never deliberatly try to catch air in the truck. some dumbass blew a red light haulin ass i was doing about 75 i saw him when i got into the intersection the only place for me to swerve was into a field but through a big ditch in the process. not fun at all im actually very surprised this is all that happened to my truck. it seems to move up and down like normal just the right front makes a bunch of noise doing it.

 

thanks, yeah it scared the shit outa me, we were both moving pretty fast both roads had a 65mph limit that would have been a nasty wreck.

 

Ahh my speed reading failed me. I misread about you being run off the road, sorry. Glad you're okay. Sounding more like a UCA if the shock seems fine. Bushings could have gotten compressed a little too much and are allowing some play, or the ball joint could plainly be fubar.

 

it may be a broken shock, but check the shock base and see if it is rubbing on your sway bar. that may be causing the squeak.
just saw that you can replicate it by running your hand over the coilover. post pics, and let us know what set up your running.

 

got it fixed today, thank god nothing was broken, i have the toytec ultimate kit with the light racing ucas, turns out that by moving so far up the bushings for the uca were binding, when i took it apart today and re tourqed the uca bolts back in the right position it is all working perfect. this toytec stuff is pretty damn tough it took a helluva hard hit and no issues at all.
