Newbie Here, Howdy All

I'd been driving a Nissan Hardbody for 20 years and while it had been a good truck it was clearly on its last legs. As a a town truck (home to work to home) is was passable, but I'm planning a move to Texas and that truck would clearly neither a) make the trip, or b) pass the Texas vehicle inspection if by some stroke of Zeus is made the trip. So I was window shopping and decided I would get the truck I had always wanted, a Toyota Tacoma. Were I to be staying in Nebraska I had swore I would never drive another winter without a 4x4, but since I'm moving to Texas I decided I could forgo the 4x4 and get another feature that I'd never had on a vehicle before - air conditioning. While in the middle of window/internet shopping and talking to various salesmen on the phone my old Nissan finally had a problem (rusted out brake lines) that would cost more to fix than the truck was worth. Between the rock and the hard-body, I had to call my local salesman, whom I had blown off just that morning, and say "Help! I need a truck TODAY!". So I didn't get the white manual transmission access cab of my dreams, but I DID get a Black 4 speed automatic (also never owned an auto), SR5 Access cab. They assured me they filled up the tank, but the emergency light came on the next morning and I narrowly escaped running out of gas on the side of the road. The Sales Manager was very apologetic and sent me a check to cover the gas.... But this gave rise to a question I can't find an answer to anywhere and would appreciate an answer if any forum member can elucidate me. (Don't worry, it's not dirty). All the info and the Sales Manager himself swears that the Tacoma tank holds 21.1 gallons. I hit the warning light and it took 15 gallons to fill it up. Sales manager says there's 2 gallons left when you hit the light. 15 + 2 = 17. The way I see it there are only 2 solutions. One, my tank really only holds 17, maybe 18 gallons tops. Two, there are really 6 gallons left when the warning light comes on. And no, no one's been siphoning my gas. Buddy at work still gets 75 miles out of his F-250 once his warning light comes on, not because he gets great mileage (he gets crap), but because there's still so much gas left in the tank when the light comes on. I'm wondering if all the manuals and service managers in the world are wrong and my tank still has 5 or 6 gallons left when the light comes on.
I'm still on my first tank, and set the trip odometer at fill up, so I can keep a close eye on it, but since I only put about 10 miles on a day it will be a while before I have any useable information.
Anyway, I love my truck, except for the transmission it's the truck of my dreams, and I'm glad to be a member of the Toyota Forum. Thanks for having me.

Welcome...when mine is on e and the light comes on, takes about 17.5 gals to fill it. I guess its just a reserve thing.
