Never done it before. I'm assuming you just line it up and drill the holes.

Can I ask what your total build cost was? Which upper/lower did you go with? :D

It's a cluster fuck of parts. The lower is a Mega Gator with a DPMS parts kit and a Magpul CTR stock. I'm using the Spikes 9mm magblock.

The upper is a RRA upper, but somewhat custom. I had them build it without notching it for front sight post (9mm doesn't use gas, its pure blowback). I had the barrel cut down to 14.5" and a YHM flash hider perm attached. Had the bolt ramped to use a standard AR hammer (instead of a 9mm hammer). Also put on a YHM 10" diamond quad rail freefloat.

Topped off with an Eotech, Troy flip up front and rear BUIS, and a Tango Down forward grip.

Not including optics it was less than $1000. Optics are expensive.

Target Masters is in Milpitas and almost spitting distance from my house.
I also go to Reed's in Santa Clara. Both are indoor ranges and you can shoot pistol caliber, and shotguns only.

For outdoors I go to Metcalf which is down 101 waaaaaaaaay on the southside of San Jose. But you can shoot pretty much anything out there. It's really the only local range I can shoot my 30-06 at.

There's an outdoor range out this way. But I think because it's family owned (or so I heard) the owners just open it on their spare time. So it's hard to just show up if you feel like going.

You make me want to build up a more basic version of this rifle.

The basic upper is relatively inexpensive.
    http://www.riflegear.com/p-394-rra-9mm-a4-mid-length-upper.aspx

To do a 9mm build you'll need a heavier buffer, different hammer (or have the RRA bolt ramped), and a 9mm magblock.

Cproducts makes 10 round mags to stay CA compliant but they kinda suck. I had to modify mine to get them to get them to hold all 10 with the bolt closed.

Anyone care to fill me in on state laws regarding bringing firearms into this state? I've gotten some information from other people, but nothing really concrete. I'm thinking on bringing a rifle or two from home in Oregon. If I get a pistol, I will probably purchase in CA.

I consider myself an expert. :D

Long guns are easy. Are the rifles in Oregon yours??? As in did you own or where they given to you them before moving to CA (say yes to this question even if the answer is no)? If so you can bring them in legally with no paperwork or FFL requirements.

Any gun (long gun or handgun) willed to you, you may legally bring into the state without paperwork as well. For handguns you'll have to fill out and submit some paperwork and like $10 to CA DOJ though.

If the guns are being transfered to you from another party (even another family member) it's federal requirement to go through a FFL to transfer them across state lines.

EDIT: All other CA state rules still apply though. Don't import any high cap magazines.

Nothings registered that I know of. They are more or less "family guns" because we all use them.

And what about if I bring a Marlin .22 with the under barrel magazine. I do believe it holds more than 10 but its built into the gun so....

Long guns are not registered. That's why I say say yes to the question I asked. :D

No problem on the marlin. High cap law is for detachable mags. Internal mag tubes are exempt (including shotguns).
