I currently own a Tacoma V6 2010 Double Cab and although it's great, I would like to see an increase in my mpg. (4x2)

I imagine if my current v6 gets around 17 local / 21 hwy, imagine what the mpg would be like if it were a diesel! Better mpg and torque, sounds like a win win.

I know the toyota hilux overseas is available in diesel but why is it so friggin hard to find a v6 in the U.S. with a diesel option? There are plenty of Ford/Dodge/Chevy models that are diesel but in a v8 model, but i'm not looking for power.. Just amazing mpg with the ability to put some stuff in the back for minor towing. FILL THIS MARKET VOID, please!!!

    Anybody care to chime in?

No thanks man, my last Tacoma was a 2005 4.0 V6 DCLB 4x4 and I was only pulling 19 MPG average, even that sucked!

Toyota Truck fans have been asking for a diesel in the U.S. for years.

I don't see it happening in the foreseeable future but you are right, it'd be awesome.

You really think the big oil companies want you getting a diesel truck that gets great MPG? haha that's a funny thought.

A lot of us on TW, would like to have the 3.0 diesel, that they put in the Hilux, that are sold almost everywhere but the U.S.. I have called every dealership in Orange County and none of them could get.

im scared for the future of small/midsize pickups in the US. it seems as though the government is trying to jam us all in those damn Eco box clown cars. Ford is killing the ranger, chevy is killing the canyon/Colorado, and the Dakota is already killed.

I sent a letter to toyota VP asking about the diesels and they actually responded with a letter talking about how there is no foreseeable future of diesel trucks for toyota in american at all.

large trucks don't require emissions testing like cars thus diesel engines are great.
small trucks get thrown into the "car" category. Toyota, Subaru, Ford all have 4 banger diesels oversees. None want to invest the money to meet Cali's(and others) CARB standards.
Maybe things will change as higher MPG's are required in the near future.

    :D

Let's hope! I have no need or want for a full-size pickup. The Tacoma is the perfect size as is !

Go to like the middle east where you can buy a 1980 something toyota with crew cab AND a diesel engine, always wondered why only certain regions get certain kinds of vehicles, who decides what goes where and why?

It'd almost be worth it to buy a Hilux (or other diesel Yota) overseas and bring it back here to the States with you - not sure how much of a hassle that would be but I'd consider it if I had the coin.

That 6 MPG adds up quite a bit on a full tank!

Good luck trying to import anything less than 25 years old.
the LC guys are always trying to get diesels imported. Its a nightmare
and will cost you more then 2-3 times a new tacoma price tag. Even after all that you may get denied driving it on any normal street.
