dead on range finder for a bow sight

its kinda like "bracketing" your target........and seems like it would work well.

 

I would like to know if anyone has used on also looks pretty cool !!!

Those have been around a while... older variants never really caught on around here. Not saying they don't work well, but I'd be concerned about a repeatable yardage "guestimation" based solely on body size.

I've used this old model since 1998, works well, large by today's standards, wears like regular binos, (even though it's a monocular on the viewing side) provides a good grip to help steady the device and slips inside your jacket prior executing the shot.



If I were to change, I'd opt for a current model with ARC technology built in. Takes issues of steep angle calculations out of the shot placement part of treestand hunting. Good luck this year BTW!

 

you got me interested, especially bein on a college budget and missin a deer last year

 

so here is an idea that i am going to try to homemake somethin like this. i will use masking tape or somethin at first just to test this idea out. I am also left handed so all my marks will be on the opposite side.

pretty much i will put one mark somewhere on the bottom right side of the metal circle that surrounds the sight pins.this mark will be placed on the bottom of the belly of the deer. then i will go out and using a 3d deer stand 20 yards away and make a mark on the metal circle where the top of the back is. then do the same for 30 then 40. in theory i would be able to judge the distance of the deer by seeing which two pins the deer fit between. ie: if i line it up and put the bottom pin on the belly and its back is between my 30 and 20 mark i know it will be about 25 yards. obviously this method will just be accurate as a rough measurement depending on deer size and such but it will atleast tell me which pin to use. if it works out as well as I hope then i think this method will be able to get me within 5 yards or so

i used masking tape and marked it off and it worked as well as can be expected on a 3d deer. had my buddy walk out in the field and set up the deer then i turned around and estimated the distance using the tape and i was able to get within 3-4 yards every time. im now looking for a way to make one that is more water proof and durable but also interchangeable for different animals because i want one for a bear sized target as well. im thinkin about tryin to find a bolt that will fit in one of the holes with a rectangle washer to keep it tight and then find some way to quickly attach a piece of metal that would sit on the right inside part of the sight that i can either put small notches in or find someway to attach the fiberoptic threats that are used in sights. maybe super glue. im going to work on it some more over the next month and try to come up with a good solid base. I will be sure to post up again if i figure something out besides the masking tape

Edit: here is another thought for people huntin out of tree stands. you will probably want to mark it from the stand because the animal will be a much different size when looking down vs looking straight out. I think it would still work pretty well though

 

I bought one last year but never put it on. I need to put it on.

 

After looking at my cobra sidewinder radiant......it won't work on mine,since the side is open. Guess I gotta get better at judging distance. Lol

 

dont know about live target but on my target box seems pretty acurate. suck because today is the last day for archery. rifle coming up.
