help buying my taco!

Hello TW, noob to the board and am posting for your help! I'm dead set on retiring my '02 accord and upgrading to a double cab, long bed tacoma with trd sport package w/jbl and running boards... been researching for weeks on what kind of tint i should get, alarm system, how to protect my tailgate etc . . . definitely an exciting time in my life

i've been researching on truecar and im getting a price of $27,500 - $27,750. (1) i'm sure the price will go down as we get closer to the 2012's right? (2) any buying tips from the seasoned members on the board? (3) what do you think is a good price if i bought, lets say in september? this will be my first major purchase in life as i just graduated college last year and started my career. i, like everyone else want to get the best deal possible and i know the 2012's will be great leverage in purchasing my '11. thanks in advance . . . now i gotta really think about buying a trd CAI....

 

lol welcome to TW..i got my TRD sport dbsb for $26k brand new in 05. As for mods,slow down!!!!! hahaha youll have plenty of time to add to it. Just browse around and see what you like,maybe newer products will come out..i can tell youre excited,youre posting and researching at 2am

I thought that Toyota didn't make the longbed double cab with the trd package, but I could be really wrong. . . Anyway, the 2012 models usually roll into the dealerships around October (at least in my area), so October might be a better time to look into getting a deal on the leftover 11s. . . Also, at my local dealership they offer a college grad discount of $1000.00. I think you have to of graduated in the last year and they will give you that discount. You should check into that, I only know about it because this is my last year of college lol.

They make DCLB TRD Sport packages, they don't make TRD Off Road package in DCLB.

I am a diehard advocate of Overstock.com pricing - I just priced out a 2011 DCLB PreRunner TRD Sport (w/JBL) and Running Boards and the total came out to $27,010 (plus tax/tags/title/etc...).

If I were you, I'd walk in and start at $26,500 OTD - the worst they can say is n0 and with the 2012's rolling out soon, they will be more likely to eat it on a 2011.

As far as whether to buy now or wait, I would at least start looking around and checking stock. No more 2011's are rolling off the line now, it's all 2012's...the longer you wait, the less of a chance you will have at finding the truck you want.

That is all just in my opinion, but after buying five Toyota's, two of which were 2nd gen Tacoma's...you start getting the hang of it. Not to mention having sold them for a little over year.

I wouldn't wait, you won't find the model you want once the 2012's come out. There's 100 other buyers thinking they'll wait till the new model come's and get a deal. This truck is too popular to think they'll discount the price to get them off the lot. Go in on Saturday when they're really busy, keep them negotiating as long as possible, while you have a sales person tied up there are customers walking off the lot. They want to make the sale fast, the longer you have 'em the more willing they will be to make the deal.

 

Something to keep in mind is the Overstock.com pricing is not OTD - you technically have to add tax/tags/title/etc.

However, the key, is to do your research before even calling/visiting a dealership. First step is to print your Price Guarantee, which is what you will get from Overstock after you price out the truck you want (click "Continue", enter information, wait for e-mail). Next is to find the dealership on the list that Overstock gives you (they will list the three closest dealerships to you that will honor Overstock pricing) that you want to try first (I would obviously start with the one that is the closest), then find out what they have on the lot (easiest way is to do a drive-through). If they don't have a truck you want ON the lot, move on to the next one (the prices are only good for IN-STOCK vehicles).

Once you find the truck you want, at a dealership that honors the Overstock.com pricing, get the stock number either off of the truck itself or their website, walk in, find the youngest/cockiest salesperson you see, throw the piece of paper on the table and tell him you want whatever truck you found (go ahead and give him the stock number off of his own lot - it will shock him), for this price OTD and hand him your license and insurance card.

I did that exact thing at my local dealership and I got my 2011 DCSB PreRunner TRD Off-Road for $25,099 OTD. It had just arrived the day before, and had 6 miles on it when I took delivery. I couldn't be happier.

Worst-case scenario, say you don't have a dealership within 50-100 miles of you that honors the pricing, is you go to the nearest Toyota dealership and tell them, "Hey, I can go to this dealership right here on this guarantee and get this price...do you want the business, or should I go ahead and start driving up there?". Not necessarily saying that will work, but it's a decent worst-case.

Same here in the south east. I paid $30,500 for mine last week, and that was before taxes.

 

These guys do have good points - the entire game can change regionally.

Keep in mind all of what I said above (about me going in and getting the price I got) was down here at a SET (Southeast Toyota) dealership.

However, as long as you enter your zip code into Overstock, the price you get on there is a guaranteed price for the dealerships that it displays at the end.
