Hello everybody! First of all, I am a new member, but long time lurker. This site seems to be a great site, so I finally decided to join.

As for my question, I noticed a lot of people have had trouble with their 2nd Gen. Sun visors. The driver side visor of my '06 Tacoma started to droop about a year ago. I couldn't push it all the way up. My bf took it off and fixed the little hinge on it, but a couple of months later, it was drooping again. I think it's beyond repair, so I was wondering if anybody has bought a new one, cheap from an online store. I've checked ebay but they don't have what I need. Oh, and I no longer have warranty so having the dealership change it is not an option.
I realize there are probably a few threads that talk about sun visors already, so I am sorry if I am being repetative.

    Thanks!:)
    - Rosa

Remove the visor from the truck. With a VERY sharp knife slit the edge of the fabric at the point where the rod enters into the visor. Carefully peel back the fabric exposing the plastic body of the visor about 1 1/4". Cut a small slit in the plastic body of the visor in the same location on both sides. The slit should not be any longer than 3/8". Take a threaded radiator hose clamp approx. 1 1/2"-2" dia. and insert it through the slits in the visor and tighten it. Fold fabric over clamp. Obviously the clamp screw will be a visible bulge but the visual impact will be minimul when the visor is re-installed. The other advantage is that if the visor ever becomes loose again all that has to be done is tighten the clamp.

Used twine to hold it together until I can get a clamp. Saved me some bucks. Thank you!

Looks like you're going West on the 202 about 1/4 mile away from the Scottsdale Rd exit?

    rep for B.Snow

    Additional ideas suggestions
1-use dremel tool to make the slots
2-cut closer to the cylinder than the center of the visor. there is a metal flange on the shaft within the body of the visor and you can hit it and it will obstruct the screw clamp.
3- I did the mod with screw clamp, but I think you could use zip ties for lower profile. I think the metal zipties would work the best. You can grab the end with a pair of needle nose pliers and spin it like an old style key for sardines or spam befor they had pull tabs. You would be able to get enough tension on them this way
4- be aware of location and orientation of the screw clamp. it can obstruct the visor and dig into the ceiling.

The Stealership wanted $62 for this item. supposedly they have fixed the problem , but even though it hinders safe driving it is not a recall item.

Thank you B.Snow for posting this fix for a broken visor. It sure worked for me and saved me about $100. Gotta love that! I really appreciate it.

I just did this, it worked great. I used an 1/8th inch drill bit to make the slots, drilled all the way thru the plastic after cutting the cloth back. I used two small hose clamps just like in the picture, and then pulled the cloth back over to kind of hide the repair.

    thanks!!
