Jesus Christ is that jackoff still going on about the traction control? I have him on ignore.

There's no pleasing the fool. All he wants to talk about is that, and he'll make it fit in any situation, relevant or not. Had a good steak dinner last night? Traction control would've gotten you to the parking space faster.

The thing that really kills me is he's hardly one to talk, tooling around in a stock truck. Some of us have that traction devilry on trucks that are quite a bit more built and roll side by side with front/rear locked Tacos in our wheeling crew. I'd say individuals with such experience are in a better position to make judgements.

Wow. You have NO idea of what is going on in here.

I quoted you talking about "how a differential locker will help you slow dow/ keep a low speed on a decent". And now you are talking about going up a hill. You are a true genius. I mean you can't even keep your thoughts straight.

You are talking about going down an icy hill and do you really thing that a differential locker (in either front or rear diff or even both) will help you keep traction? Really??

I probably have more time behind the wheel rock crawling/ being in off camber and one wheel slipping (like the vid) then you have. Just ask doug/4wd or any member of my family or any one else that I have gone crawling with, they will tell you I know what I'm doing and talking about.

My suggestion to you is get your shit straight do do your research.

If this is directed at me, then no I'm not talking about traction control.

Trust me, this kid can wheel with the best of them, & he is correct, no amount of locking diffs is going to slow any steep incline, its all about gearing ratios....

    All the normal TW BS
SB, BlueT, let's take it down a bit and look again. Let's educate each other, guys. These are my thoughts:

-Overheating the brakes usually happens during excessive use of the brakes in a situation where the brakes are not capable of dissipating heat fast enough
-ATRAC used uphill will utilize brakes, but I wouldn't think it would cause the braking system to overheat or even heat up too much. It's sporadic, the brakes aren't working very hard to keep stuff from moving. ATRAC downhill, however, would probably exacerbate braking issues.
-a locker uphill or downhill will have no impact on brakes. It doesn't control brakes at all
-a locker going downhill will not slow you at all. It is a traction device, it doesn't control throttle, braking, gear ratio, or compression. True, our tacos require 4LO to engage the locker, but any slowing would be caused by the gear reduction performed by the transfer case shifting
-to truly impact your descent speed the best way, you would need heavy gear reduction, a crawl box (again gearing), something like an allison transmission, or compression brakes

9 out of 10 Dentists say installing ATRAC on your teeth will help you chew.

Too bad there are a couple guys here that have to bash a Toyota product... or me for talking about it. There are a LOT of posts on TW I don't like or agree with, so I move on to another thread... But, for a couple of you if I 'help' with explaining about a Toyota product (A-TRAC or ?) they get real bent... Somehow it is just fine for them to praise their non-Toyota traction system, however... as if it has no flaws or that we all have an extra $2-3,000 to put in an already expensive truck.

Can't we all just get along? I admit to bashing Sport TRDs in the past (I just couldn't get over the love for a fake scoop, sorry), and I have backed off and apologized for offending anyone... So, how about equal time Blue T, and other haters of Toyota's product or my praising of it (because it works)?

Truce? Ignore me if I bug you... How about some freedom of speech and friendly debate without name calling? I have had lockers without A-TRAC and four wheeled since the 60's, so I am not new to this activity.

Lockers are awesome... I ordered my 3 Tacomas all because of the locker they came with... I didn't know my '10 had A-TRAC until after I got it... I have taken the time to learn about it (from folks here on TW and other sources, then using it myself). Until you have used it in different situations, you can't possibly appreciate it... So, what's left? To bash it like anything you don't understand or seems foreign.

Don't be affraid of new technology... sometimes the things they invent improve our lives. I have discovered A-TRAC is one of those things that improve my four wheeling experience and keep the excitement going!

    Viva Toyota!

Even if that were true, so what? Just read stuff that interests you... I see a lot of posts about things I have no interest in, and move on... most aren't even about Toyota products! Do I tell those folks to stop posting what they like to post about? NO!

I post about tires, off roading in the desert and in Baja, camping, lighting, Stewart's Raceworks, etc. Not soley the traction controls... but that is about the most mis-understood products.
