Going to do this, I have the light bar back there. I think I am going to get a CB wednesday. After IRENE, I think I needed it more then I thought. I have a hand held for work but it would be a lot easier to leave it at work. I will post pics......... The guy at the CB shop said he will mount it and boost the output considerably.

Thanks, I am probably going to get the uniden does that have weather? I knew all of the roads that were closed. I had to wait for them to open a road just to make it to my house. This road was the only way for me to get to my house, all other roads were closed.

Almost foolish to off-road without a CB radio. Great for traveling in groups, calling for help (from other nearby off-roaders), coordinating pulls (stuck vehicles), getting advice on good trails (unfamiliar areas), and similar. Nothing else (cellphones, FRS, ham radio, etc) offers a similar range of applications.

And CB does still offer the traditional capabilities, such as getting advice from locals while traveling (good restaurants, gas stations, campgrounds, etc), getting directions to avoid traffic jams (accidents, etc), hearing about or reporting speed traps, casual conversations ("ratchet-jawing") when bored, and so on.

My Tacoma is less than a month old, but will soon have a CB installed.

Edit: Oh, almost forgot. Also ideal for picking up prostitutes at truck stops.

hardly anyone is on CB radios in SoCal..not even the truckers..they are all on SSB

also..most of the different groups that i wheel with all have race/2meter radios..and i would say that the ratio of those now having a race/2meter radio is far greater then those who have CB radios. CB radios are pretty much obsolete in my neck of the woods
