How long does it take to get over your old Taco/get used to the new?

Just a quick question: How long does it take you to get used to your new Taco?

Backstory: I had a 1993 Truck (no taco back then) that I got with 7 miles on it. Sold it 14 years later with over 130,000 on it. It was truly no frills--except for 4WD. That truck was a tank. The little 22RE engine never gave me a bit of trouble. Hated to sell it, but expanding family and no backseats forced my hand.

Got a new 08 Taco Extended Cab. The truck is nice, but I wonder if she'll still be running as strong as my 93 fourteen years down the line. I bought my new Taco on the strength of my old Truck.

I have about 8000 on my truck now and don't seem to be getting any of the major problems that people seem to talk about.

I guess I just miss my old truck. Oh well. . . .

Any high mileage 2nd gen Taco owners out there want to put my mind at ease?:)

I'm almost in the same boat as you are my friend. I'm still running my 91 SR5 PU with 206,000 on it. Still running strong, very little rust and have had no major issues. Loving the idea of a new truck, but , ,,,,well you know.....

I've had this thing for 17+ years,,,,kinda hard to let go. haha

I need convincing to buy an 09,,,anyone????

Considering I had a 96 tacoma to a 04 Dodge Ram, and then back to a Tacoma.....

I loved my first tacoma. It was a bomb and my first love (well, you know what I mean). I did everything on it and learned sooo much from it. I gained a ton of friends & forum peeps and I hope I helped people along the way.

Then, there was the Dodge. We needed towing power for my trail rig. The Dodge was nice but I just don't like the fullsize trucks.

I was VERY VERY happy to get back into a tacoma again.

Although, I will admit....I didn't like the looks at first. It grew on me. I absoluely LOVE the access cab doors (my favorite). I love this truck over anything else out there. However - I read these and other forums and I see lots of complaints about a lot of things, and I worry about the longevity of these new trucks. I'm even considering getting an extended warrantee. They're just not like they used to be.

Should you worry about it? Naaaaaaa......... There's enough support here and other forums to help you solve problems (atleast, for the most part).

When mine reaches atleast 5 years old without any problems aside from usual maitenance, then I think my 'worries' of reliability can be put to bed.

But seriously.... register and login to some of the other manufacturers forums of other trucks and see what their complaints are about their trucks. That's the only way you'll know if Toyota is still better than all the rest. I'm sure they all have their share of issues.
