2011 TRD sport: Need to lower for grandma.

Aloha, I know it's sad to lower a trd sport, but I need to for my Grandmother. She cant use my step bars and it is to high for her to reach the grab bars in the truck. So, I need to lower the truck, just for now Can I do this myself? or do I need special tools. Can you guys let me know? Thanks so much!

 

I've seen it done but it cost a pretty penny. Have you thought about getting a step stool and just keeping it in the bed of the truck.

+2 on this.....2 or 3 nice wide wooden steps with grip tape on them

 

i like the step stool idea. no mods. try the E-Z Foldz stool from bed bath and beyond. it is light supet sturdy and folds flat. good luck.

 

Mine is lifted and when I take grandma around town I put a step stool down for her and throw it in the bed until she needs to get out. May be worth a try before altering the truck.

 

My uncle had a TRD Tacoma. He kept a step stool in the back for my grandmother. 95 at the time. Now I just pick her up when she needs to get into my TRD. She is 97 and about 4' 8"

 

seriously. consider the ez foldz stool. its lite and collapses flat. really useful for other things too. 20% of coupons are everywhere for bbb stores.

re: Tundra Racing - ask for Tom, I believe they have sent lowering kits to dealers for disabled vets & others with special needs. Toyota does have a special disablity resource online (at least they did when I bought my truck).

I use the Nfab tube steps with the step loops for my stubby legs...

My mother in law uses a step stool.
We help her and she does well.
I would try this option first. If she can't then she can't.

When MIL gets a little worse i'll custom make one with 2 steps and stick it in the bed after use.

 

Check out a spa store for prefabbed steps if you don't have the time/knowledge to make them. I have a set of wooden steps that came with our spa...don't need them because we built a deck. I'm hanging on to them for the day I get a camper shell for easy entry.

get a ramp, drives hers hoveround up into bed. stays in chair, get to where shes needs to be....then reverse out.

never needs to leave the chair....or truckbed.

 

Personally I dont think that lowering kit is going to make much of a difference. The specs said it drops the front around 2ish inches or something. In the big scheme of things...is 2 inches going to make that big of a difference for her. I wouldnt think so..

I say run the steps idea by her and see what she thinks..
