You think I should take it in? They might have something to say about this :p...

She's at 70k anyway so it doesn't matter but it would still be funny to see what they would say. Just play it off like you don't see what the problem is haha

That's what my buddy said. I asked him to ride in the bed while I bombed up this jeep trail. Poor bastard I think I ruptured his spleen though hah. He said it sounded like it was coming from the back too. I tightened all my U-bolts and no luck. I did have a leaf pack issue once when I had the J-66 pack and that was definitely coming from the back. This sounds so much like the front and I don't know if the camera would pick up the noise if it were in the pack. It's possible though.

Atleast your sound was produceable in your own drive way. I can't get my stupid noise to happen unless I'm driving atleast 25mph. Occassionally it popped in the parking lot but it will never do it on command unless I'm driving faster.

hrm. if its from the back then i know even less. just make sure shackes are tight, washers where they need to be, bushings good. etc etc.

haha 4 sure. My money is on the front because the camera picked it up so well. Who knows though.

I was thinking something like this as well, but I didn't want to say it. :/ Maybe up in the shock mount or UCA mount.

hmmm... have to start getting drastic...

how's the lower heim pivot on the CO's...? or the UCA bushings? properly greased?

i know you said they seem good... but i'd look into the wheel bearings more... those dont like to hold up well against off road abuse at speed

Man I've looked so closely at my cams to see if there's any shiny or warn metal from where the cam is moving just like in your video. I see nothing at all and have cranked all the cams with better than 100lbs. Maybe for shits and giggles I'll loosen them up and retorque in case the bolt is frozen and giving a false indication of torque.

The heims are all tits. The UCAs could stand to be re-greased but they don't make any of those typical noises that dry bushings make. I think they are still well lubricated. Worth a shot anyhow.

Man if it's the wheel bearings I'll be bumbed. God knows they've been put through hell and I'm surprised they're still holding. I don't get any noises though on the open road just cruising or doing a little swirving motion. Wouldn't all those things be noticeable all time and more like a rattle rather than a pop?

I'm pretty sure wheel bearings would be quite obvious if you shook the tire side to side, especially with that sound!

Finally figured out my sound. After some offroading this weekend I managed to hit a nasty pot hole and grenade my steering rack. So... $430 later with a new steering rack, I discovered my popping sound is now horrendous. Had the girlfriend do some pull forward and back up manuvers in my drive way. Turns out the lower control bushings are toast. The LCA actually moves foward and backward until it contacts the frame with a clunk. Shit!... I don't have the funds for this hobby anymore. Anyone have a great idea for replacing the bushings? I've seen one tutorial on here with a piece of all thread rod and a socket but I wasn't clear on the whole process... help?

Never seen the lower bushings replaced. Can't imagine it being too hard, big breaker bar :) Make sure to put a good soaking of panther piss on em a day ahead of time.

Take note of the cam markings, you'll still need an alignment probably.

well, if their anything like mine, not particularly expensive, BUT will take some time.

Pull wheel, pull brake lines from spindle, and pull caliper and set aside 5gal home depot bucket, HAS TO BE A HOME DEPOT BUCKET, you cannot hang on spring cause thats comming out too, pull rotar, pull abs line from spindle, as well as the spindle, and hang, also jack up the lca so the spring compresses, remove uca ball joint bolt, pound on uca to get it off the ball joint. You raised it so when it does break it doesnt mess up ball joint threads. Lower, remove lower ball join bolt, and tie rod end, also axle nut, 36 gen on first gen, once spindles out, out, you can remove the shock/coil assembly, which will now render the lca floppy, remove the mess of whats left, and replcae with new bushings and bolts and what not. Then go in reverse order. You should be able to leave coil/shock assembly, assembled so it wont be to bad.

sorry for my brief instructions, but you can get it done pretty fast with basic hand tools, jack, and stands. start 8am, and you could be done by noon if you stay busy, and slow but steady. 36mm can be rented from tool stores if you need one, just have a breaker bar handy, 196ftlbs when you put it back on, for a first gen.

Thanks for detailed info. I have a feeling your LCA bushings are somewhat easier to replace; not because of the level of difficulty in dissassembling the vehicle, but because of the fact that my bushings are machine pressed into the arm and will require a press to remove. One guy on here used a piece of allthread rod and a socket to construct a make shift clamp, but I'm not confident in the method without seeing some more pictures.
