VT does not have any coastline, or palm trees. Those pics are not all of VT, but then again, we are not the only state to get hit hard. NY took a major hit as well as the southern states in Irene's path. Very sad all around.

All I know for sure is that they lost a historic covered bridge there:
    http://www.businessinsider.com/bartonsville-vermont-bridge-swept-away-flood-irene-video-2011-8

There are many thousands of people without power/phone/internet, so probably that's why you haven't heard from her yet. There were "only" 4 fatalities, so most likely no worries there.

On the way in this morning I passed 12 utility trucks from Detroit Edison. Very nice to see outsiders coming to help with the efforts.

Wow I got anonymous negative rep for pointing out that some of those pictures aren't from Vermont? Really?

"08-30-2011 11:18 AM instead of complaining of pictures he posted from the internet why not use the time to think about what happened to people?"

I have family in Vermont and I'm from Massachusetts so I'm certainly thinking of how it affected people. Thanks for not leaving your name either.

^^ Wasn't me, I was thinking the same thing when I saw those pics...no palm trees in VT. But yeah, millions of people were affected, so it's all the same disaster, regardless of state borders.

^^Couldn't agree with this more. I grew up in VT and it's where my whole family lives still. Tough, tough people up there.
I'm headed up soon too to help my family dig out.

    The good news:
    Not many deaths
Seems like power will be up and running before winter hits

    The bad:
FEMA is running low on money, not everyone everywhere is going to get the help they need.

Makes me proud that folks up there are just digging in and working to salvage what they can while helping out neighbors. My uncle is playing host to one couple with two kids an older woman and a big dumb dog. :)

BTW, I'm heavily invested in the topic, read all posts and don't think anyone should be given a negative rep on any post here. $.02

^^^Thanks for the update. The Rochester / Bethel / Randolph area is where I spent most of my life. It's good to see the people overcoming this disaster.

Why did Vermont get it so bad? Keep seeing them in the news. Crazy how much damage they got being one of the last states hit. Seems like one of the worst hit states somehow. Is it just really flood prone up there?

thats what they have been saying on the news. "Hurricane states" are built with hurricanes in mind because they expect them every year. sure vermont isnt really prepared for hurricanes :notsure:.
