Changing the color really isn't an option. The unit that actually lights up is a self contained jobbie. Not like the gauges and 09+ clocks. Only real option would be some blue tinted film to go over the top. Or else you could maybe source that same part in a different color...

First of all go back into roof and check behind the clip hangers, the clip often falls out and lodges up there!!!
    Failing that:-
If you go to the "toyotapartszone.com":- First identify your vehicle (year model etc.) then, under "Section" open "Electical"; under "Components" click the righthand down-arrow and sellect Interior Lamp (81-21). This will give you a list of parts, however, they do not show the clip, BUT, if you click on the blue button "->Get Info" it offers a diagram showing the components of the overhead temp/compass, along with the clip identified as Fig 64-52 Number PNC63650D. I tried entering that Number under find by Part No. but it does not show anything.
However, I'm sure if you go to their "contact us" and provide them with the details above, they will be able to advise a Toyota part number, and probably a price of a few cents along with a $20.00 shipping fee - all you need is the part number to go to your local dealership or any local OEM dealer.
Phew... and you thought that was going to be simple.
Alternatively, try to bend a piece of spring steel into a make-shift clip - or just wrap the post with electical wire until you have enough to wedge it in place.
Good luck... now I need a drink after all that...

I had this truck less then a week, and the compass stopped working. Took it apart tonight, and had mom solder it. I thought those 510 chips would be alot bigger! Sure as hell, it worked tho..Thank you

I just joined the forum yesterday, and the first topic I looked up was the temp/compass issue! Thanks for showing the step-by-step on this. It took me about 12 minutes, including figuring out how to use the soldering iron (yeah, I'll admit it, I had never used one before!). Now the display is working just fine, and according to you guys, I just saved myself a few hundred bucks!

    Thanks

Does this work for when the LCD has a burn mark on the screen?

They all have that as that mark is a "nature of the beast" mark for glass displays like these.

so i get in my truck today and notice that my temp/compass gauge is out. I hit the button and it comes on but the next time i start up and go it doesn't turn on again so i hit the button and nothing. I have done this once b4 but i guess it didn't hold. Held for 2 years i think. Truck has almost 80,000 miles on it for a 06.
